What's the truth about peanut butter and restoring black plastic trims ???

I got carried away on rear bumper and side swiped the lower black trim, so was left with white residue that wouldn't wipe off.
So thought I'd try the peanut butter trick!
Finished I set about tidying my arsenal, to be greeted by the neighbour with a handful of beer and dog.
We softened the much deserved beer and laughed at the dog licking the bumper / peanut butter, much to my frustration and amazement the white residue was cleared, though now I'm not convinced whether the peanut butter did it or the roughness of the dogs tongue ............

It shall lead onto the next question which relates to branding and which works bests, Sunpat or Aldis ??
If you got this far you'll know I refer to smooth peanut butter & not the crunchy stuff which may cause swirl marks scratching or marring of the plastics....

It does work [I've done it], but it'll fade again given time.

10 days on and still no sign of the wax residue, so perhaps time for another coating, though noticed we also have Nutella chocolate spread ...... Might give it ago should it return
