Just gone and blown over £500 on a set of Thule Wingbars, some Thule Proride 598 Bike racks, and a Thule Ocean 600 roof box in anticipation of our half-term family holiday (Centreparcs). Ordered from roofracks.co.uk. Delivery due in the next day or two, hoping I will be happy with this lot. Thought it a worthwhile spend considering I plan to keep the F11 535D for many years, and is our main family car.

Any experiences with Thule? I am especially wondering how the wingbars fit on the car (without damaging anything). Hoping I made the right choice.

Always had Thule (pronounced 'Tula' according to my Danish best mate.)
Can't fault it, currently have the edge wing bars and pro ride racks.
looks great and fuss free bike loading. Leaves no trace on the roof rails.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

Had BMW originals roof bars on the 530d, but went with Thule for the X3 bars. Aero wing bars in black. Absolutely no issue with Thule other than the initial expense.

I bought the BMW roof bars for my 5 GT and was told they are Thule bars re branded with the BMW logo so BMW must rate Thule

I have a Thule roof box and two Thule bike racks and they fit the BMW bars fine, the only thing i had to do was get larger T bolts for the bike racks as the T Track in the BMW bars is slightly wider than it was in my old Thule bars

cant help with fitting your bars as mine has fix points so is a different type of fitting than the F11

My son uses a Thule rack for 3 mountain bikes [only ever carried 2] that clamps onto the tow bar of his Isuzu DMax truck, its been fantastic, and complies with all legal requirements.
As an added precaution he always has a security chain around the tow bar and bike rack, and a second threaded trough the bikes and around the tow bar.
Nothing has ever moved despite some of the rough tracks he has been on.
Bought from Demon Tweeks in Wrexham who were competitively priced.

Have had Thule in the past and they have been fine. Just picked up a secondhand paid of Thule wing bars for my Range Rover which should be quite good. Going to get some roof bars for the e61 as well

    cheers

Well I cleaned the chariot and tried fitting the bars and lo and behold have now discovered one of the supplied feet from the fitting kit is incorrect, aargh!! It clearly doesn’t match the other three. So emailed roofracks.co.uk and hoping their customer service is up to scratch. Not a good start.

That is a shame was the foot pack box sealed or did it look like it had been opened at all, i am sure they will sort it quickly for you

Yes the feet do come in a separate box. I noticed mine had corner damage on the box, and were also 'resealed' with Roofracks branded tape. I decided to open the box anyway hoping it was just packaging damage. The feet looked fine and I didn't notice the very subtle difference in one of the feet. It wasn't until later when trying to fit the bars to my car that I noticed the problem. In hindsight I suspect these might have been a previous return. Nevertheless I'd be happy if they just send me the correct foot in the post, and would be nice if they threw in a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience (I need the t-fitting for my roofbox). So long as they do it quick and with minimal inconvenience to myself. I did mention in my email to them if they couldn't sort me out in the next few days, then I'd be requesting a full refund, as i have a holiday coming up and might as well then just go to Halfords instead (even if it costs a bit more).

When I read the original post I though 'Wow what a monster box!'

But on checking I see that the 600 in the name Thule Ocean 600 does not refer to the capacity of the box in litres as it's 330 litres.

I have an old Thule roof-box - rebranded as a LandRover accessory, which I rebranded to be a BMW one.

It's quite big at 440 litres - here's a couple of pics of it on my last e90 using BMW bars which as @mach one says are Thule products with BMW logos on:

    At home.

    On the Rossfeld RingStrasse.jpg
And on the Rossfeld Ringstrasse in Bavaria.

I also have the same 3 bike towbar mounting bike-rack that @Abh29 mentioned. (sorry no pics of that)

All of them are very well made, strong and reliable, and parts easily obtainable and interchangeable.

I'm glad that my roof-box is silver (boring though that colour may be) as I've heard reports from friends that the contents of black roof-boxes can get pretty hot in Summer sunshine.

I like the aero-bars as a lot less insects hit the roof at high speed. ;)

Finally sorted ahead of our Center Parcs trip! After a bit of a faff getting the correct clamps. I must admit I Love my 535d! Even if I suspect the onset of the dreaded EGR cooler issue (at only 14k miles!!) D92AA874-310C-4C49-8F8A-0111F2C8BC50.jpeg 7D6C1F9B-7279-4191-8058-C661C0C3B16F.jpeg

The roof arrangement and car look fanstastic. What size is that roof box? I particularly like the way a bike can be carried in addition to storage (y)

i have a similar set up for my car all be it an older box and it is good that you can fit the box to the side and still get one bike on the bars as well, only thing with my box is you will only get one bike on the rack next to the box, the thule pacific 200 that i have is 20cm wider than the box above and i recon on my car i might get two racks on the bars next to that box

Its does render the sunroof useless though. When I use mine for bikes I stand in the rear footwell with the sunroof fully open to aid the bike installation.
