Just a few weeks after receiving the battery recall notice, I yesterday received this. The E91 is used by my wife and young children regularly, so anything referencing potential fire is naturally concerning. This in addition to the other recall notice regarding losing electrical power! Having said that i realize the likelihood of any incident occurring to us is extremely low, but BMW clearly wouldn't be doing if it was trivial (they feel compelled enough to issue this). For an 11 year old car I have had no reliability issues beyond the ABS module going. At face value, the guidance on both notices is do nothing until I receive another letter due to limited parts supply. Wondering if I should rely on this or press my dealer now for a booking; the cynical side of me wonders whether this is BMW's way of deferring a lot of customers away with no intended follow up, whilst being seen to be doing the right thing. Thoughts?
When is a recall not a recall? This is just a letter to say don't call us we'll call you ! If it was me I'd be on the phone politely but robustly demanding some action. Kindest Regards Carl.
If youre concerned then take it in to your dealer, they wont have parts but will check the current state of the blower resistor and if it is showing excessive sign of heat damage take the car off the road until parts are available. I haven't had that letter yet but have checked my resistor myself for the time being as its only 2 20/25tx screws to access it. Mine is showing slight discolouration on the wiring and the pins in the resistor so just going to wait until parts are available.
I've had both of those recall notices. I'm going to wait as I've not experienced any issues with either the blower motor or the junction box. Being a recall they wouldn't be able to fob you off so they will follow up with another letter saying to book it in. I wonder though if maybe it's a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease - if you press for them to look at it then they will?
I've had this one too I'm waiting for the back log of customers cars to be sorted before I bother bringing it in
Hmm I just got this for the M3 too - i'm sure this has been fixed before though, would they check that before sending?
It's somewhat confusing, as i'm sure there had already been a fix done for this, but BMW say it's definitely outstanding. In she goes again!
