This is a thing of beauty - the new Porsche 992 . . . . I want one! :driving:

It does look absolutely gorgeous in the front and side views, but I'm not too sure about that sculptured rear end with the full width strip rear light. Reading the brief comments on Pistonheads, it also sounds like a real driver's car, and possibly the base model without all the sophisticated performance enhancements, could be the most fun to drive. It's crying out for a manual version for that true 'seat of the pants' sports car experience.

    What do others think?

    "Dear Santa, next Christmas I would like . . . . " :D

I think the vast majority of us would like to own a 911, and the 992 is, I'm sure, a brilliant car. It's a real annoyance that most of us need the practicality of a car a 911 cannot give us. Would be nice as a 'toy' though...:D

Lottery winnings on Friday was a mere £2.50, so that's no help to getting a mansion with a 4-car garage....:banghead:

I was behind a 69 plate 911 convertible yesterday, those things are wide!
Lovely looking thing though. Really tidied the rear ended up since the previous gen.

The Dutch police used the 911 Targa, complete with white rubberised coats and orange skid lids. The targa top was never fitted even in the worst weather. I guess that the idea was that one could drive and the passenger could stand up and shoot at the bad guys. :ROFLMAO: Used to see them regularly around Amsterdam when I worked there in the 1970's.

l guess l am in the minority then as l would never be interested in buying, owning or even driving a 911. l know it is a legendary car often described as the ultimate drivers car but l have never been a 911 fanboy, and my money would be spent on a fast Luxo barge rather than a sports car

absolutely the world would be a very boring place if we were all the same

l do appreciate that the 911 is a supremely capable car and is often described as the worlds best sports car and the GT3 RS and the GT2 RS are the ultimate track day cars. and watching Misha Charoudin take a passenger lap around the nurburgring in a GT3 RS driven by kevin estre the man that did a 6.56 minute lap around the ring in a GT3 RS shows just what this car is capable of

l have just never been a sports car type of guy

I started driving sports cars as soon as I could afford an MG Midget in the late 1960's, and have owned a wide variety in years gone by. I've had an E Type Jag, a couple of Austin Healey 3000's, Ginetta G12, Lotus Elan and a few more besides. I almost purchased a new Porsche 911 Targa from Schiphol Tax Free Cars when I was working in Amsterdam in 1976. It was £8750 but I never went through with sale, largely because of the colour - it was bright yellow with a red leather interior. Then later the family arrived, which necessitated changing to saloon cars. So owning a 911 is an itch that I've never scratched, although whether that makes sense now I have a gammy leg and ageing joints, remains to be seen.

But we can all dream. :)

I absolutely love it. When I saw the picture below I damn near started weeping (well perhaps not but you get my drift):
