I thought this looked familiar when I spotted it for sale: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/auction/17381379. Still looking good although I do prefer the wheels in silver!
Good spot! I saw the same a few minutes ago. Brings back happy memories. I was genuinely thinking about this car this morning and thinking about what a super allrounder it was.
With the romance of it for sure. But with another 3 owners, 25k miles and manky black wheels. Not for a second.
Interestingly, I've done a bit of digging on prices of these now and I can see why it's going to a specialist auction; they're trying to monetise the back-story of the car. I hadn't realised that used prices for these at this mileage and age are around the £18-20k mark. A lot of car for the money, for sure. Having said that, at 10yrs old and poor ICE systems, it is feeling a bit dated. Also, my old car will prove very marmite. It'll either fetch a premium based upon its history or fail to reach anything more than the going rate because folk are put off by how hard it may have been driven originally. I got comfortable with its early history based upon the Porsche Press Fleet maintenance that's done and buying it from a dealer with a 2yr warranty. All of that is a long time ago now and without a safety net, I'm not sure it's worth any more than any other car of a similar vintage?? I guess we'll see once the auction progresses. Whichever way it goes though, that price-point is very interesting. A lot of bang for your buck, even if you need to spend a bit to keep it on the road over the next 5-10yrs.
It always amazes me how many previous owners a lot of Porsche’s seem to have. I recently saw a 2020 992 911 for sale at a main dealer with less than 20k miles but 8 previous owners!? Makes my 1990 Porsche with 2 owners including me (for 28 years) a bit of an anomaly.
Fully agree. In all honesty, I've been persuading myself over the last couple of days that if it had only had one owner since me, I might have taken a punt on getting it back. I've started becoming a lot more discerning in terms of number of owners. There's a real smell about people pushing cars on so quickly. I understand it potentially with a 911 which the first owner may have been "encouraged" to take to be considered on another transaction, then some chap/or lady might decide they want to treat themselves to a Porsche for their milestone birthday then realise they can't afford it / doesn't work with the family etc so two owners by 2yrs old - sort of get it. But later on, it smacks to me of a lemon car which no-one wants to sort.
