Had the pleasure of being driven around in this for a couple of days; a colleague is considering buying one. I'm not a fan of the RR Sport and prefer the 'proper' RR, however the point was to check out the so called 'mild hybrid' engine and see if it suits a big bruising 4x4 - and compare it to the SDV8.

In short, it works well... if you have a sub-10 mile commute and want to glide around in EV mode. The 30 mile range was actually 20 before it switched to petrol.

With the move from diesels on the horizon across all manufacturers and increased taxation looming, along with emmission zones due in the near future in places like Leeds, it was definitely worth a try to see if the hybrid works. And it does, the petrol engine itself is amazingly quick and the turbo must be huge to produce the torque it does.

A 30 mile maximum range from c.8hrs plug in charging coupled with a 2 ltr petrol turbo, puts put around 400bhp and overall an impressive package (demonstrator) with the black pack, Meridian sound system and a good HUD.
The dual screen interface is very slick, however there is a slight delay between touch and action on certain menu options.

    Cost? As specced - £83k.

I took a pic of the new RR vogue se waiting to have its plates attached, now that was a thing of beauty and at £93k it should be!

    One day...

What happens after 30 miles and you're running on just the 2 Ltr petrol engine? It will hardly be the Sport version then. IMO these hybrids are ideal for avoiding LEZ or ULEZ charges, but out on the open road, they don't make much sense.

    YMMV of course.

A Landrover with two power sources....even more likeliood it will break down and spend weeks at the dealership than a Landrover with only one power source !

"Not a lot", is the answer.

If in the unlikely event I ever purchased a RR Sport, it would be with a nice V8 under the bonnet, or maybe a hefty diesel for better economy. If I wanted low / zero emissions it would be something like a Tesla.

I just told her forget it... nice as they are... they’re not for me... and she now knows that...she couldn’t stand the thought of me telling her I told you so, when it does pack in.. and they’re not that great value for money when you compare to the big German offerings that are tried and tested.
    Shortlist being composed...

Me.... keep the 640d.... another year plus.. we both absolutely love it..

her..... X5, Q8, ( she doesnt like the Q7..) 840d...( no towbar... my sons truck will be able to move caravan if we have to move it anywhere..) Nearly new ‘S’ class coupe.. as above.. nearly new Porsche Macan S, used panamera..
    Curved ball. Audi E tron...

    Let’s see what 2020 brings...

I quite like the ‘proper’ RR. I’ve enjoyed owning a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the past which has some similarities I suppose but the Range Rover is a little more special really.

Btw, when our @The CO first started considering an RR, I genuinely (and naively) thought he meant a Rolls Royce! :D
