Got myself a new BMW today.... 1999 Z3 2.0i 6 cylinder - auto Always wanted one and saw this one nearby. Its a nice drive and sounds great. I recently sold a Ford Probe project car I was working on so needed something exciting to replace it. It's my first convertible and definitely puts a smile on my face. Pics... Looks a very nice example. Just need to be allowed to enjoy it. At the moment mine consumers more polish than petrol. You did very well getting the original wind deflector with car , those and Tonneua covers have often been lost or sold on seperatly. Lots of good advise over on zroadster.org.
Great looking car. The original Z3 took some time to grow on me, seems to have got better with age. Yours looks great on those wheels. Enjoy, when you can!
I agree with @Wynne71 they have certainly grown on me too. That is a great engine, I had it in my old E36 320i of the same era, made a good noise and quite lively. Surely these will start appreciating soon?
How does the auto box suit the car/engine? I’d have thought a manual would make more sense in that car?
Manual definitely was my first choice too, but tbh I got such a good deal on this it was hard to pass up even with an automatic transmission. The autobox is actually quite good with the car, easy for relaxed cruising. Plus it has the manual 123 which I have used and it allows you to hold onto the gears as desired. Yes I had an E36 320i coupe too which is what attracted me to this engine in the Z. It sounds great and has a nice character. Current: BMW Z3 2.0i Roadster Steel Grey E60 530D Sapphire Black E38 750i Individual | Oxford Green Sent from my Samsung Note 10+ 5G using Tapatalk
Thanks, yes the wheels do suit it well. If it was with the originals I would have gotten some aftermarket deep dish wheels. Current: BMW Z3 2.0i Roadster Steel Grey E60 530D Sapphire Black E38 750i Individual | Oxford Green Sent from my Samsung Note 10+ 5G using Tapatalk
I still prefer the original Split Rims ( 7.5 on front 8.5 on rear) on the Z3 , but mine do need a refurb now. Just check it was 8 year this week my son bought the car , I have had it about 3.5 years and between us its done 31,500 miles in the 8 years , 4,000 per year ,always been 2nd or 3rd car ,we have both driven it the whole period. YES its a keeper.
Brother in Law's Z3 is the 2.2i with 5-speed AT. It works fine, but just doesn't feel right when you really want to press on, hunts gears quite a bit. I'd image the 3.0i would suit an AT best, as there is enough power to work the box efficiently. MT would be my choice in the Z3, simply for the 'fun' factor. Peter
A couple of more pics. Plans for the Z3 include clear wind deflector, speaker upgrade and strut brace. Current: BMW Z3 2.0i Roadster Steel Grey E60 530D Sapphire Black E38 750i Individual | Oxford Green Sent from my Samsung Note 10+ 5G using Tapatalk

Nice buy - a straight six petrol with the roof down is a great occasion when you are allowed to press on.
Thanks guys. I'm really happy with the Z and it's fun to drive. Makes a nice change being in something smaller after the yachts I've owned over the past few years It's a 2.0i straight 6, which they only made for a year oddly (same engine as E36 320i) before swapping for the 2.2i from the E46. Definitely sounds good and I'm enjoying the autobox more and getting used to manipulating the pedal to get the most from it. Good to read... You mention it sounds good... My BiL's Z3 has a superb exhaust note, BMW got it just right, IMO. I'd imagine your model will be very similar, also with the I6 engine. Peter
