Well seeing as the original thread is gone this gives me an excuse to tell the world about the M140i all over again and update my thoughts and feeling on the car but first let's have a picture outside Cotswold Cheltenham... The car was pretty much new at this point and apart from the black decals on the side, it was standard. So first impressions of the car were brilliant, 340hp in such a little car is quite staggering and the acceleration is breathtaking. However the main negative I found with the car is that the handling is not upto scratch with the performance, I couldn't really feel confident in the handling at all and kept a deathgrip on the steering wheel at all times and I guess the runflats only add to this issue. So it appears I am not alone in thinking this and after scouring another site dedicated to these cars, a lot of owners have had their lowered slightly and also added wheel spacers to improve it so I thought "what the hell", it's a cheap modification and although modifying is not really my thing I thought I'd give it a go as I will have this car for some time. So here it is after installation time: First impressions were very positive, it really has made a big difference in the handling and improved my confidence in driving it. It's not perfect but better anyway and if anything it does improve the looks (maybe subjectively). The only issue I've really had with the car is the exhaust rattle which is quite common on these, occurring from anything between 20 miles and 8000 miles (some have had it the same day as new pick up). Now for those who are not aware of this issue, there is a butterfly valve in the left tailpipe that rattles on start-up, it sounds like a baked bean tin full of stones and is extremely embarrassing on such a new car. After a couple of months of battling with BMW customer services and financial services they agreed to replace the exhaust with an M Performance version without the valve. Many owners have been successful in obtaining these exhausts as a fix but I can tell you it was a frustrating process but although I wasn't really aiming for an upgrade, more just a fix (no fix available currently), I am happy with the resolution. You can see the chrome tailpipe below: So overall it's a great little car, certainly a bargain for something so quick, if I was being fussy I think it could do with a little extra in the mid-range but certainly not in the low range as it really struggles to put the power down in any conditions other than bone dry and warm. I'm planning on a trip to the Nurburgring in May to really stretch it out and see what it can do within my limits and I'm taking another forum member @The Governor for company too but as a passenger as he's not allowed to take his M140i there because his wife says so. Unfortunately after that or at some point this year it will be time to say goodbye as it's proving impractical with two kids and I can't handle the wifes moaning about it anymore so as she wears the trousers I will be replacing it with another estate. She wants an SUV but I think a fast Touring or Avant will be a good compromise.
