So after a string of proper M cars and then a divorce followed by me losing my car mojo and running a few F10 520ds I decided life was too short and I may as well enjoy life on the breadline!!!!!!!! On Friday I swapped my F10 520d sport for this F10 M5 in Monte Carlo blue with Silverstone interior. It has a few nice options but as standard they are well specced so my only must have was sun protection glass. I have had two E46 M3s and then an E60 M5 before the wilderness years struck. The M3s were a delight to own and bullet proof. Nimble, quick and sounded great. Then it was my E60 M5 or as Zarnd called it, "The Warranty Slayer". Brutally fast over 6000rpm but so so fragile. It was in every month for one thing or another but that engine, oh my god that engine sounded incredible, it simply howled when pushed but the penalty was the most horrific fuel consumption. But I loved that car, then divorce struck.............. So fast forward a few years and I am back in a proper M. To say it is quick is like saying Mark Zuckerberg is slightly rich. It is biblically quick. The V10 lacked torque but this one has so much but then jus pulls all the way before snatching the next gear out of the seven in its perfect double clutch gearbox. That box is sublime, utterly seamless shifts and so fast. The sound is not as good as the V10 that is certain but it is by no means rubbish. If I can make it sound as good as it does for its 20 second cold start cycle then that would be perfect!!! The car is big but the chassis is wonderful, it grips well and has a lovely pointy front end that can understeer when really pressing on but stab the accelerator and the rear wants to step out killing any understeer lol. The interior is gorgeous, it even has the same smell that my old E60 had. This car will do me in financially but life is too short to say no. If you can find a way to do it then why not!!!!!!
Sun protection glass, reversing camera, 20s, through load and unbelievably a tow bar. The bar is completely hidden and does quite an impressive show when revealing itself!!!
I forgot what a modern M car feels like so was slightly stunned when I first gave it a bootful. From behind the wheel is is a very familiar feeling in terms of the position and ergonomics but that is it. Even though the 8 speed sport auto is a great gearbox I got so fed up with the delays between pushing the accelerator and the box deciding to gives the rear wheels some power. It may have only been a second but it just felt so lazy and really hacked me off. I found the 2.0d lump quite good, very frugal and more than adequate power but this M5 is fast like I have never known. 1st is almost useless as it all over in a second, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears is where it all happens. It is savage in 2nd, proper kick in the guts savage and it just keeps pulling and pulling. I love the steering, there is lots of feel and the chassis is lovely and tight for such a big car. And the brakes, finally an M car with proper brakes. They feel like my old Stoptech BBK setup I had on my M3s, powerful and gives a lot of confidence. Fuel consumption though still crap is not even close to the shocker that the E60 was. 15mpg on a good day was always an eye opener. At a steady 75mph on cruise it actually nudged 31mpg before settling at around 27mpg but giving it a full right foot sees it drop very fast. Basically if you nanny it then it will easily do mid 20s but give it some and it drops like a stone!!!! I already adore this car, I know it will be a financial headache but life is about living and enjoyment.
Good on ya, its taken me awhile to get over my divorce, but one thing I did after renting for a year was buy a house as big as the one the ex got/sold. It improved my new outlook on life no-end, so hopefully the M5 will do same for you.
Where did you see it? I got it from a dealership in Ashford, Kent and the pics never got listed. It came in and I did the deal before they put pics up, they did have the spec and price up though but just had coming soon where the pics should be. I think it was originally a South West car as the plate starts with a W so it may have been at other dealerships as it was strong money for the age due to the low miles.
I bought a house one road away from the ex so my kids could walk to me whenever they want and as such I have them 50/50 That probably pee'd her off a bunch and then I met my gorgeous girl who lives two doors down as she went through the same crap, we became friends and a few years later the friendship grew - double pee'd her off lol
Anywhere where it is empty enough lol. I am lucky to live around some lovely roads. I won't let it rip in the higher gears until the ring trip next year, it is just too quick. I ride some quick sportsbikes and my joy comes through stringing fast corners together and the same is with the car. Top speeds hold no real interest for me, but that said I will probably get a remap done to unleash it a little more and get that top speed limiter off so the autobahn becomes more fun.
