I *think* we have ordered a new Mini JCW for the wife to replace her 2019 320D. The *think* part comes from the fact that there is no paperwork signed as yet, but I expect it to be done and dusted this week. All going as expected I think we are on for collection w/c 9th November, but I should probably know more by the end of this week. The sales experience through the agency set up that Mini now operate in has been interesting for sure.
I’m not up on the newer Mini models (Mrs W had a Mini One in 2009 ) is that a three door one? EV? Five door? Coupe?
My bad, the model range is maybe not the easiest to follow. Mini John Cooper Works is the 3dr model, with the 2.0 engine 231HP engine. The salesman (order taker now) I spoke to says they haven’t had one through their doors in the colour combo she’s chosen, which surprised me a bit to be honest. Speccing it is kinda odd with so many bits tied into packs, so I guess they are a whole lot less customisable than they were when they first came out back in early 2000s.
Sounds like a lovely bit of kit. We have the cooper in 3 door body with a level 1 pack. The kit it gives with level 1 for the price is bonkers. As you say, ordering through the agency model is odd and not being able to haggle goes against all my car buying instincts!!! That all said, I adore driving our mini, cracking little go-kart even though it is just the 175bhp 1.5. I can only imagine how good the JCW is.
It’s all just been internet/phone call for us so far, my wife is not a believer in going to car showrooms. We’ve gone for Level 2 pack on it which gives all of Level 1 + Sunroof (which we weren’t desperate for but will be nice), 18 inch alloys (when she really wanted the all black 17s from Level 1) and tinted rear windows (which was the bit she most wanted). It’s been a pretty impulsive “purchase” assuming all goes as expected with paperwork, and the main reason for the JCW over a Cooper S was actually the red roof and mirrors, as soon as she saw the red roof she was set that she wanted it. At this point in time I am probably more excited than she is as I can’t wait to get a blast up some of the local back roads in it.
They are a fantastic drive. My wife isn’t a car person so wasn’t fussed about the bigger 17” wheels as she would stress about kerbing them so that makes me happy as well!!! We went British racing green with the black roof. You will thoroughly enjoy it I am sure, they really have got it sorted in my opinion driving wise.
Mine isnt an F66 but and F56 (well technically an F57 as its a convertible!) - have bhad Mini's in the family since 2012 and cant see me being without one going forward. The F57 is a JCW - came on 18s but swapped to 17s and non run flat tyres to improve the ride. Its also 230 ish hp but a bit less torque than the new ones....but mine is a manual and you cant get that any more so I wont be swapping. Also, as I'm a grumpy old man, I dont like the new touchscreen minimalist interior but I can see why others do. Enjoy when it comes, what colour have you gone for... Mine is not high spec as made when the chip shortage was on, so no HK stereo. Cant really hear it with the roof down anyway.... its black body black roof, anthracite wheels (now) and obviously flashes of red for JCW.... welcome to the club.
Her choice is Blazing Blue with the Chilli Red roof and red bonnet stripes, Level 2 pack adding sunroof and tinted windows. As noted above it’s on the 18 inch bi-colour wheels when we’d have preferred the 17 inch black ones, but if it’s really loved when it arrives then wheels are ultimately changeable, especially if we anticipate keeping it for a long time. If there’s one slight downer to the latest generation it’s that visually the Cooper S and JCW are very similar, with I think it really only being the central exhaust that shows much of a difference between the 2.
sounds fab... dont worry about the appearance, you can get a JCW look on the previous model so a standard cooper can look like a JCW except for the brakes and exhaust. I've had mine 3 years in a few weeks time, which is amazing as it still feels like I've not had it long. Done approaching 18k miles in it too - which given it was bought to be a weekend fun car for mainly spring summer and autumn use is quite impressive. My other car does about 10k a year so my justification for the cost of running it is it saves depreciation on a more expensive vehicle - man maths at its best!
