Hi Everyone, We have just swapped my wife's 530D for an X5 Hybrid and I have to say I am really impressed with it and the hybrid technology. My wife only commutes a mile and a bit plus has to often collect our kids from school so this is perfect. Power delivery is seamless. The bit I really like is no road tax (as pre April 2017) and no congestion and pollution tax. Looking forward to understanding the X5s better - we have had a five series for the last eighteen years! Cheers, David
I forgot to add that as a fried of ours once managed to drive off with a fuel pump nozzle still in their car (taking out the whole pump!) I did see what would happen if I forgot to unplug the car and the simple answer is nothing. The car refuses to be put in drive until you remove the nozzle so big thumbs up to BMW for that one.
So far, day to day feels pretty much like a normal car apart from the fact that the engine is off a lot of the time. I have installed an external socket on one of our ring mains and created a water proof box that the transformer and cable live in. So you drive into our drive and then, away from prying eyes you plug it in and leave overnight. It takes about five to six hours to fully charge on this trickle charger. Other than that it is pretty much business as usual. Slightly trashier sounding than our old 530D as it is a four cylinder rather than six cylinder but plenty of poke.
