Amazing service, although I've criticised the BMW dealership in Inverness before [four years ago ] the exact opposite was my experience today. Credit where credit is due, the welcome could not have been bettered and arrangements were spot on as regards the Courtesy car I had requested 'just in case', because of my weekly hospital clinic visits.

I wasn't really expecting my car to need the Safety Recall, but apparently it did - and, being me , it needed not only the shorter cable which runs from the battery in the boot to a junction box under the car, but also the other one which runs the whole length of the car to the starter and all the electronics up there.

So, I have this to possibly the middle or end of next week. BMW HQ are picking up all the costs, including Insurance [if this needed done, I expected any Courtesy car to have to be covered on my Insurance, who would probably have charged an admin of £25/40ish - "No Sir, BMW will cover all the costs". And all this on a 17 year old car with 138,000 miles on her !! [IMG]

A big shout out to Ed and his colleagues at @Cotswold BMW for the advice & guidance they provided too :salut:

Even more enjoyable when it's not costing you anything. I was quite impressed with the X1 when I had one as a courtesy car - not for performance, but for comfort and practicality, it was quite good.

A result indeed! The X1 x1.6 [does that mean four-wheel drive? :?] is a decent drive, has more tech than the e60 obviously but doesn't have the equiv of my Dynamic Drive so there's more body roll - which is to be expected with the higher COG.

I'm not going to fiddle with the settings because in the short time I'll have it, as long as I can get the radio I'm not too fussed about the rest, impressive as it undoubtedly is. All in all a pleasant place to be, with all the basic controls in exactly the same places as all other BMWs....which is nice. (y)

There's no mileage limit on the loaner, so I'll be making a trip to my nearest Costco [just outside Aberdeen]• on Wed coming to stock up with 'stuff' - I had this planned before I knew they had to keep mine anyway, in case Nicola imposes a distance limit because of you-know-what on Thursday.....:whistling:

But, I'll definitely return it for my 5er. (y)

    EDIT: I forgot to say I noticed a 'Sport' button......mmmhhhh :D

Just about to take the wifes X1 for a service...after 4 new tyres yesterday its emptying my wallet tremendously this week !

When my BMWs have been in for recall work ive always been told that if the work is expected to last 4 hours or longer BMW require a loan car is provided...the dealers presumably charge this back to BMW UK

    Well done John! (y)

I had a similar X1 loaner a while back for 2 days and thought it was a great little town car with that 'small' engine.

Plenty room for shopping at Costco :)

But ................. I was very happy to sit back in my 330d after they had finished fixing it.

Re your comment about not 'fiddling with the settings' - that shouldn't be necessary if you have your profile set up on your Connected Drive account.

I swap all my preferences right away - and often forget to revert to standard when I return the car.

The only thing I never seem to get to work properly is the email settings - but I never have a loaner long enough for that to bother me.

@Singvogel - thanks Bob, as you say it's a pleasant enough drive and a nice cabin.

Connected Drive account....?:rofll:- remember the e60 is nearly two decades back in terms of technology :whistling: :D, so no fancy stuff like B/tooth, voice control, phone snych etc.....

    I'll just get in and drive, I can't break what I don't fiddle with.....:D

I am pleased you are happy with the X1 loaner. Enjoy it. In the next few months, and after a few miles, I will be posting my ownership and driving experience.
What do you think of it? By the registration, it looks like it is a Pre -LCI (round fog lights) M Sport (sDrive or perhaps an xDrive) registered between 1st March and 1st September 2020. Looking at the wheels they are the 18" M sport variation 570M. What does it say on the boot lid? Diesel or Petrol (i)? If it shows 1.8 on the boot lid, then it is the 3 cylinders 1500 cc. These engines are the so-called modular engines with 500 cc per cylinder.

It's diesel - I've not taken much note of the details , but I think it says X1.6D on the tailgate.. It's very comfortable but I'd say more difficult to enter & leave being that bit higher than I'm used to. No doubt i'd adjust though. Good view of the road. I'm surprised it doesn't dip the n/s mirror when reverse is selected like I'm used to, but I suppose that'd be another 'extra' to be ticked when original spec was chosen....:D

It will be labelled a 1.8d. That will be 3 cylinders of 500 cc displacement each, making a 1.5-litre engine. Typical BMW confusing the public again! They do not make a 1.6-litre engine.
Ah yes....one of the reasons we purchased it. Getting in and out as you get older becomes a problem. We are 78.

That must be in one of the packs. Ours does it.

If it's like my 330d, the mirror controls on the driver's door - use the slide switch to select the L/H mirror. It should now dip the mirror when reverse is selected.

I simply can't keep up with the plethora of new models/designations. :?. Is it remotely possible that BMW are trying to be all things to all men? :-D
