Morning Everyone, current Mrs L is getting itchy feet ( car wise - I think) not looking at exotics but 5 door hatches. Seems to be a number of these in hybrid form these days. My question is where will the values of these be at 4 years old when she would be selling it ( assuming she buys one)

Obviously not asking you guys for a ££ valuation but how the tech will affect the trade in value. Will batteries and motor/charger etc still be serviceable or will big bills be looming ?

Most are putting long warranties on the batteries to assist in reselling the car to a 2nd or 3rd user.
Porsche recently extending mine (between order and delivery) from 5 to 7 years.

As for battery performance, its been said that constant improvements in technology would render an older hybrid poor as newer would have a much better range.
Its true ranges are always improving, but if you wait to buy for that reason, you would never buy one, or any car for that matter, as MPG is always improving too.

Personally, I love the hybrid system now, and was never interested. Its the way forward, and will buy another Panamera Hybrid 100%, or the 911 if its out in time.

Mine can charge on the run, or at home. I have never charged in a public place, but would, except its slower to charge than say a full electric like a Tesla.
I would always want a car that can re-charge on the move.

I wouldn't worry about no charging points in the future, this is where all manufacturers are focusing their development, so without doubt, there will be more not less.

Interesting thread and there's been some similar ones on Pistonheads.

What has been of note recently is the residual values on the Nissan Notes which have actually held up (relatively speaking) in spite of battery development and a flood of them coming off PCP or Contract Hire. There's demand out there and TBH, if anyone made anything convincing enough for me in SUV form (I say that fully aware that Mitsubishi do something  and the new X5 has a hybrid - too expensive) then I'd be all over it since I think our pattern of usage on the wife's car is far more suited to hybrid than anything else. It's just the fact it has to be 4x4 and offroad capable too, which is a weird mix with hybrid as it stands.

When I am offshore the most the car does is 5 miles at a time 90% of the time. The only time it does any long journeys is trips to Manchester 3 - 4 times a year, so Im thinking hybrid may be a good move. Local Lexus dealer has a couple of contenders that may be worth checking out.

I was going to suggest the BMW i3. Never driven one, but purely on the basis it was rated 'Best in Class' in the hybrid section of Top Gear magazine by Clarkson et al.
But on second thoughts, that might not be the best recommendation . . .

Funny how no one has suggested the 2 series active tourer hybrid, maybe there's a reason for that ?
