Morning all, hope everyone had a good Christmas In BMWland tradition I wanted to share with everyone what I'm driving, share some photos and real world opinions. There's a great deal of product experience on this forum which I'd like to add to. (Also I didn't want to clog up the work account so made a personal one) After being in an X3 G01 20d Xdrive for the last 18 months I've moved back to a touring. The X3 really did everything I wanted, it's hard to find fault with but I did miss my days in an E91 touring. I can't stretch to a 6 cylinder but to be honest the performance of the new 20d is much like my old 325d. Spec: 475 Black Sapphire (just like my E91) Adaptive M Sport suspension Loudspeaker system - harman/kardon M Sport braking system aptive M Sport suspension acoustic glazing M seat belts BMW Laserlights High-beam Assistant BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow line at last I have a split tailgate again brilliant feature So how does it stack up against the X3 with the same power plant? Well being ~200kg lighter it moves along nicely, I'd expect mpg to be 5-6mpg better once it's run in and it handles like it's on rails. There is a little more road noise than the X3 and I won't be parking on beaches/fields in this but you can't have it all. The seating position and ride is comfortable and I'd expect long distances to be covered effortlessly. I'll keep this updated as I put some miles on
Hi Ed - that is a stunning motor! I had a 320i Touring earlier this year as a hire car in Austria and it was a fantastic car. Really had us questioning whether we would get one of those rather than a 5er if we were in the market for an estate. Enjoy it. Great spec you have on it too. Particularly love the laserlights and will be interested to hear how good they are.
That’s a lovely looking car, and in a cracking spec. Good look keeping the black clean in this weather....
Great looking motor! Well done. I’m slightly biased towards Tourers (as opposed to SUVs), driving an F11, but the styling of your MSport looks impressive. Looks like the ambient lighting can now be set bright enough, nice. I’ve always found mine to be too faint. Your photos look impressive too. Did you use a camera (as opposed to a phone)?
Nice looking car. We have had several 3 series cars and both were great workhorses. The first one was an e91 2007 6 cylinder 325d M Sport, the second one was an f31 320d Sport. As we got older, we found they were getting increasingly difficult to get in and out of because of the creaky old bones in the body, so we have moved to an easy to get in and alight from SUV (X1). Do I see a camera tripod in the front passenger footwell of the car?
This one doesn’t have the hybrid system, build date just before that was rolled out. Yes shot with DSLR camera & tripod to make the most of the low light First time putting things in the boot today, it’s definitely bigger than the X3. Maybe not in litres, but it is in inches.
That was a nice touch. But clearly only for the latest idrive versions! Mind you, I’ve not started mine since 25th Dec so who knows....
