Last week I went to open the car door and it was frozen! Opened with a nasty crackling sound! I was then kicking myself for being so silly as to have forgotten to give the door and boot seals their twice yearly rubber care treatment. So out with the Gummi-Pflege and a small paint brush and it was the work of 10 minutes to go round everything that needed it. This is the stuff: I bought the genuine BMW product from our site supporter friends @Cotswold BMW a year or so ago. The 250ml bottle will probably last for several years more.
I'm not sure if there is any silicone in this gel actually. In years past I tried treating the door seals with everything possible, including glycerine, screen-wash, methylated spirits, and de-icer, as well as various proprietary products specifically intended for the purpose. They were either too thin, too thick, too sticky, or didn't have a lasting effect. As to the cost - hopefully Ed @Cotswold BMW will happen across this thread soon and tell us the current availability and cost.
I had the same , but could wait until the doors thawed out before getting mine from the cave, Bob. I worry about the windows though as I can see no way of getting the GF on the rubbers - not to mention smearing all the glass. I just scrape them as best I can then wait for the interior heat to free them. I've read about folk [in all marques] persisting with the button and managing to separate the glass from the actuator mechanism inside the door. To be warned is to be prepared.
The fluid with the foam-pad applicator shown in @Adie 's post is pretty good too - I haven't seen it available recently. The one in my first post is a light gel that I find easier to apply, with a small paintbrush. I'm sure they are both equally effective though.
