I've done a bit of research and have come up with this:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thinkware-...074ZJMZRR/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

But the reviews are mixed. I want a very small camera without a screen as I want to hide it behind the rear view mirror, the rear cam is a nice to have. I don't need lane departure warnings, speed cam warnings or the like as I have those on the car already, I just want a plain and simple camera that can be accessed via an app that is top quality with no fussy extras.

Anyone have any experience with such?

    Thanks

    Ian

I've been very impressed with my Viofo A119 v.3. It is high resolution 1440P and is really plug and play. Settings are also very comprehensive and easy to do on the unit via the 2 inch screen. It's also a very neat installation without the need for brackets etc. I was fortunate to get mine on offer for £85.
With a 128Gb micro SD card it will record up to 10 hours at the high resolution. Once full, it just overwrites the oldest files.

Check out Techmoan for a review of the earlier version.

Missed that bit as it was day's ago i first looked at the post.
I have mine fitted as high on the screen as i can and close to the mirror mount and i can't see them at all as the mirror hides them from my view.

What's the difference. On my Viofo you can change the settings so the screen stays off.

The reason for not wanting a screen is that it generally means a smaller size. I don’t want to see these cameras and the one I linked is very slim and easy to hide. Seems no-one makes a good quality slim camera with no daft features. Is that too much to ask maybe?
Just found out that installing a dash cam in a Porsche will invalidate the warranty, so I may have to get advice on that first.

Sounds a bit drastic if it invalidates the warranty - obviously not worthwhile.
Do Porsche supply their own dash cam kit? It certainly wouldn't be cheap.

I would check with Porsche, with no disrespect the bmw unit is hideous and huge, I’m like minded and want less of a footprint, I opted for the Roadhawk, looked small compact but it’s a big unit.
Mercedes now make a built in camera mount c/w camera, I’d imagine many aftermarket companies will jump on the wagon and recreate units,
I do not see Porsche being technologically different, to suggest they will have a similar built in unit available

On a side note, the Halfords next Base has good reviews, excellent mounts small and compact so relatively discreet, in regards to the screen, they switch off after a couple of seconds so not too much of a nuisance.

I still like the mobius and think that will be my next purchase, allowing removal of the roadhawk and move it to the rear

I agree about the screen and daft features, Someone needs to make a quality camera that is slim and discreet. My wife has a Garmin 65 camera, it has voice control, collision warning, speed warnings, tells you when the car ahead starts moving in traffic and all sorts of stuff. The most irritating thing you've ever known, the voice saves pics and vids itself, changes its modes and whilst driving the damn thing just constantly beeps with some warning or another. If it was my car id switch every extra 'feature' off.

Regarding your warranty, it cant void the warranty full stop only things that could be attributed to it.

    Just read it.
I have had them in all my Porsche cars and had plenty of warranty claims, Porsche even have given me £1000's of freebies as goodwill , mostly track days - the last one being worth £2800, so I am sure they would have voided any warranty claim if they could.

@markyboyt is generally right, i know if you modify anything ( or change anything) for example exhausts, the whole area of extracting fumes is voided, and if you had an issue with your engine they could say its possible due to an exhaust modification they could try to get out of a claim.

I suspect if you hard wire a dash cam into the wiring loom, yes it will invalidate warranty on a number of areas, but mine are plugged into 2 usb ports.
I had a GPS antenna fitted under warranty and they never said anything about the cam right next to it.
The only time they have commented on the cam, is once i asked why my car was doing 50 in a 30 on a service test drive ( coincidentally the same road I crashed on), i mentioned my dash cams. They have always been unplugged ever since during a visit to Porsche (and my speed indicator to my phone turned off too).

Its going in for a new tyre on Wednesday ( £350 :( on 3k miles) so will ask the lad in service.

Think I’ll get my holidays out the way then purchase

I have read things on the Macan forum where the Porsche dealer has said the camera hard wired will invalidate the warranty, presumably on the electrical items related to it. This scares the hell out of me.

I am no further forwards really, the mobius does not offer a parking movement sensor and that is a problem. I like the mobius as the size looks good and it’s a decent camera, so something like that with parking protection would be ideal.

FYI - The Viofo A119 which I mentioned above has the parking sensor option built in. The camera is mounted just behind the rear view mirror and hidden from the driver's view.
