You all know me by now, I do like a clean and shiny car! I have this weird feeling that a car isn’t truly mine until I’ve given it a proper clean, so today I gave the F32 a wash and dry.
Doing this helps to get up close and personal with the machine, checking out all the panels etc. With only 13K miles on the clock I’m not expecting to find anything scary, but always good to know.

As I said in the intro post to the car, it had the Autoglym Lifeshine treatment to the paint, wheels and interior, so I didn’t need to do a full detail.

I’ve very happy with the result, the Mineral Grey really does look good when clean.

What does let it down a little is the right hand side exhaust trim, it is pitted and has black burnt into it. I cleaned with wheel cleaner and even tried some metal polish, no improvement. Anyone recommend a product to sort this out, or are they too gone? Left had side is not as bad, but then this one isn’t “open” unless higher revs are used, so I would expect the right hand side to wear quicker.

    Anyway, clean car happy owner.

    car looks good

as for the exhaust tips get a pair of BMW Black Chrome tailpipe tips .
or replace them with new chrome tips if you prefer the chrome look
they are not a cheap part but will tidy up the tailpipes

also if you go for the M Performance Power & Sound Kit that you were talking about previously you will get new chrome tips as part of the upgrade or for a bit more money you could have carbon tips

perhaps you can use the poor visual condition of the tips to justify the cost of the M Performance Power & Sound Kit upgrade (y)

Now that is taking man maths above and beyond all realms of reason. Love it.
At £1500 that is something I am thinking of later down the line.......

Have seen a few tips from various makers, I went for a black chrome on the E92, looked good, might go the same way on this.

l have the black chrome tip on the 5GT and all it ever gets is a wipe over with the wheel mitt and looks fine never had to polish it

l am a master at man maths and my car will need discs and pads soon and l am thinking if l buy a newer car l wont need to spend any money on brakes and the winter tyres are coming to the end of their life so l can save £1600.00 in repairs by buying a new car

Looking good. I gave the Macan & X1 a good light detail today too.

I use 0000 grade wire wool and a good quality metal polish to bring exhaust tips back to life.

I use Autosol for my exhaust tips, cleaned them a couple of weeks back and I thought I'd left them too long as they were quiet black etc but surprisingly they have come up pretty well! Was a bit surprised as on my previous car, when i left them too long, they didn't come out so good so maybe worth a go, unless you tried that already.

I'm too considering trading in my current car as for some reason BMW website shows my car as no longer having the 5 year service pack, which I need to phone them up about as 5 years isn't up until 2021 so I was expecting the last service to be next year. It's also getting to that age when battery started to play up on last car and tyres are likely to need replacing maybe next year or maybe following if I can make them last that long but its getting bit more use now as now my daily for work so mileage is slowly ticking up now. If need to pay for servicing now then need to find out what that will be, but I'm estimating service/tyres/battery replacement (maybe), that will be best part of £2k needing to spend.

Not decided what to move to, New shape 3 series looking too pricey to get equivalent or maybe slightly better spec and not sure I want to get a newer F30 as surely they will continue to loose money more so now new model is out so undecided what to do at the moment. It also seems BMW no longer do service plans, instead it seems to be a monthly payment plan starting from around £25 a month upwards, bit of a nuisance, I liked the 5 year plan as effectively no cost after buying it for servicing so was peace of mind that it was covered and was a positive for buying the brand.

I finish paying for the car early next year and if did find a car to switch to, I could pay it off now if needed as not much left now. Time does go quick, had the car almost 4 years now, just over 28.2k on the clock to date.

    Kev

I’m lost, who/what is Matt Watson....?

Definitely has both exhausts in use, well, when I’m enjoying Sport mode it does.

The pay monthly options for servicing are a joke. Local dealer is advertising £20 a month for 36 months for an X1
    For that you get
    1 x oil service (2 years / 20000 miles)
    1 x brake fluid change
    1 x "free mot"
    And i think map updates.

And they are claiming at £20 a month you are saving money .....mind you they are charging in the region of £22 a litre for LL04 oil !

Mat Watson is a motoring journalist from Birmingham and he does all the car reviews for the carwow YouTube channel

and his pet hate is fake brake cooling vents and fake exhaust openings. and every vent and exhaust gets poked with the carwow stick of truth

he did a review of a Lotus Evija and was upset because lotus banned him from using the stick of truth so they must have had something to hide
