After what happened to so many VW owners whose cars ran badly after the software was updated, I would avoid any recall to change the software. That would obviously mean changing to an Independent garage and avoiding any BMW main dealer. Just my personal view, but the software update is a political issue and will not have been done for the owners' benefit.

Cant wait to see which models are affected. If it is related to X5 and X6 according to the report, then my guess would be 530d's upwards.

see I read that as a different issue to the one experienced by VW and I'm sure there wont be much if any effect on the engine. The problem with things like this is the placebo effect that they trigger.

When my 640d was in recently for the EGR valve and cooler replacement they said they also needed to update the emissions software while it was in. I am not sure if this is the same software as the article but I have seen no ill effect to performance or economy - if anything it feels quicker and smoother:)

Initial reports seems to suggest it’s the 750d and M550d variants that are currently implicated http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/100219/bmw-hq-raided-in-diesel-emissions-cheating-probe?amp
