I find the standard xenon light output on the F15’s quite poor.

    Has anyone upgraded their bulbs?

I’ve done a bit of reading and the ol U toobing, and these seem to get good reviews.

Osram CBB D1s. These are 7k colour temperature rating which is usually very blue. But in the reviews aren’t as blue as you’d think and the kelvin rating was the highest in the Osram range.

Mhhhh. The packaging clearly says "Off Road" - it'll be there for a reason, if only to absolve Osram in the event of any fire or accident etc. Be aware that some of these high output bulbs can place demands on the wiring loom for which it was never designed. OK for short periods, but not for sustained use.

Sorry just seen this reply, still getting used to tapatalk as not used a few years.

Yes good point on the ‘off road’ use point. Osram also state not ECE approved for road use.

I guess it just depends how bright they actually are. They are still rated 35 watt, so I wouldn’t be worried about wiring looms.

I’d also bet that these are a more quality product in terms of cheaper bulbs you can get on the market like LED kits etc from Ali express. These probably scatter light more at other road users compared to these.

Most reviews are from other road users, but at £115 a pair an expensive mistake if they do cause you to get flashed at!

No I have read many a review about them all saying they are much brighter but disclaim the 200% brightness ! Personally I just raised my headlights and found this to greatly improve night driving. BMW are renown for bad headlight setup (search the web) I have raised them on all of my previous cars (335xd & 320ed) and did the same with my F34. About a full turn on the adjusted is enough without causing issues for on coming traffic

Thread revival! All this lockdown is making my wallet itch. So treated me to some new headlight bulbs.

After reading many many reviews, I settled for these through Amazon.

Maybe wrong time of year to get them with the lighter evenings, but I hope by winter they will be burnt in a bit and I’ll see the difference.

Will try and get some before and after shots

Yeah, fortunate enough to still be in work and with offered overtime too. So those idle repetitive weekend mornings I’m too sorting in front of a laptop bit getting paid.

Still not fitted them yet mind even with all the other extra free time ...

Yep, the biggest downside of working from home for me, is too much screen time. But the upside is that in future, I will resist spending 5 days a week in the office on tasks that I could do at home.

That’s interesting. I had an F10 pre LCI with optional xenons and replaced it with an F10 LCI which came with xenons as standard. I always thought the lights on the earlier car were better and it wasn’t just the adaptive function either (although it does help).

look at the light output rather than colour. It’s measured in Lumens (Lm).

Pretty sure manufacturers standard colour is 4300K. I would suggest sticking with that.

The ricers go for higher colour temperature which makes them bluer, but you will actually get a lower light output for a given power rating.

Yeah, I was debating the hyper blue discharge ones by Osram, but the reviews commented a sacrifice on the light output and they may also not be road legal, but then a lot on the road aren’t with the aftermarket xenon and LED kits or “ricers” as you mention (I had to google that expression lol )

Still not fitted them yet mind, need to conjure up some energy do do those and also check the air and cabin filters.
