So let me throw this out there i currently have an F11 535i that has failed to meet my expectations, previous e39 530d had 193k and i still loved it. Have an in of a 520d Xdrive sport touring that i think would be a fairly low cost swap if i sell the F11. What thoughts on that idea?
Got to agree, going from a high power, high torque, six cylinder to a 4-cylinder would be even more disappointing IMO. I have always found the x20d an incredible power plant but once you start trying to push on, it’s pretty lacklustre and agricultural. It’s best at wafting gently.
Its only a consideration because of the price point so its the specific car rather than looking more generally. Going to be harder and harder to get big capacity 6s.
The G31 ride is better than F11 if that is a consideration - avoid 20" wheels though on the G31 unless has adaptive suspension. My G31 is now six years old with 50000 miles and been faultless for the almost 3 years of our ownership. Mine is an LCI (facelift car) and these can be more reliable as ironed out any early gremlins. Had the F11 ten years and was 13 years old when sold on. It was still a great machine but I wanted something newer with a few more toys to drive long distances in Europe.
Suspect i will stick with the F11 - was just the G31 would be about £3k under market so could have run for a couple of years without loss - 535i has been expensive.
