    Hello.

I've just ordered all the service items for my F11 520d M Sport Touring and as the car is now nearly 7 years old I would like to change the coolant too. I know it's meant to be "lifetime" but I service the car far beyond what BMW recommends and the OBC asks for anyway. The car has done 55,000 miles and I think it's been in there long enough.

Anyway, I have searched everywhere but I cannot find a DIY procedure for a full coolant change. Apparently dropping the bottom radiator hose will only drain about half. I'd like a full swap and the info I have been able to find suggests that this can only really be done by BMW who connect the car to a machine that does a full purge and refill.

My car is due a recall and given that I save a fortune doing all my own servicing and repairs, it wouldn't be the end of the world to pay BMW to do it but I'd rather do it myself if possible.

Anyone managed to do a 100% coolant change?

Thanks for this, I'd seen "TIS" quoted but didn't know what is was until now. I don't think that will be a full drain though as neither of the drain points mentioned are the lowest point in the system. When I service the car I will do some inspection and post back here what I find.

The info above is useful as I was under the impression that the vacuum fill both emptied and filled the system and I at least know now that is not the case.

    Thanks again.
