Ahhh, I forgot. Yes I had HUD and HK sound on both of mine too. Definitely worth having!

A 550i would have been nice. I regretted not getting one after I got my 535i, especially when they don’t bring the M550i here.

Insurance category unfortunately. At my age it's still expensive and I think above a 520 I wouldn't get a quote. If money was no object I'd go somewhere that would insure me on anything for a fee :D

Thing is I'm in love with the M sport looks and wouldn't consider SE on the saloon version. On the touring I'd happily go for SE but am in the market for a saloon only. Problem with having to have the M sport is now comfort comes into question and I have to search harder to find one that has spec to give comfort predominantly and sportiness on the side. Because I'm so specific it's a hard task :)

I was thinking that although my heart says 19" alloys, 18" are perhaps more sensible comfort wise.

Just got a call from the dealer with the sophisto one as someone put a deposit on it which is a shame but oh well perhaps it's meant to be as I bet if i look hard enough I'll find something even better!

If only I could find one like that but M sport, that would be nice!

Ha ha what a wonderful all round car! BMW really makes stuff that has you covered in every situation:D How bad was the 535d M sport in terms of road discomfort? What size wheels did it have out of interest?

At my age it's really annoying not being able to get the faster models. I think though that the 520 should have enough power. I'm trying to get late 2014+ when they improved the engine a little so it has 190BHP and it's a bit more lively so i've been told.

The sophisto one with HK just had a deposit taken on it sadly (just found out) so that's a great shame but there are a few others out there with HK. I really want the HK because having a high end sound system just completes a high end car in my opinion and I like listening to my music when I'm cruising so would be lovely. I've seen the HUD but haven't yet found one with it. Unfortunately I find that the dealers don't always put all of the spec in the description, sometimes I think they don't even realise everything that these cars have. Then other times I think Autotrader puts stuff automatically in the spec list that the car doesn't actually have so makes the process even harder. Someone here kindly gave me a link to check the spec by VIN number (forget their name ) so that will really help.

I got so fussy about spec, that I ended up buying new.

With respect to ride comfort though, the last time I drove an F10 Msport with standard suspension on 19inch wheels, I thought it fine comfort wise albeit not sporty enough.

It all depends on what the roads are like where you live and your attitude to comfort.

Suggest you test drive a couple to get an idea, as one man’s comfort, is another man’s soft.

Always been the same. I started out with a 1056cc Vauxhall Viva, 20 seconds to 60mph. Had to earn my no claims.

Putting things into perspective, when I did get into a Cortina 'GT', (which I thought was the 'bees-knees' at the time), still not the performance of the 520d. Even my first BMW, an E12 528, was less output and performance. We've got used to much more performance these days.

When I started out, 11 seconds to 60mph was considered decent for a family saloon (2.0l Cortina) and 9 seconds quick (3.0S Capri, which had all of 136BHP from 2996cc).

When I had my Dolomite Sprint, (8.4 to 60mph) that was viewed as a 'rapid' performance saloon, in the motor mags of the time. 520 'diesel' has even better performance.

I remember watching the dolly sprints racing at Snetterton Willhire 24 hour race in ‘83. Still a good looking car.

Shame they were typical British Leyland rust buckets. I had one in my favourite combination, Carmine red, overdrive gearbox and Webasto sun roof, loved it. Part way through ownership I sorted the rust and had it resprayed. Still looked good when I sold it.

I had head up display as well as comfort seats on my last 535d, it also had 21” wheels but it was an F07 535d GT which has the 7 series chassis and it rode really well.
Until I bought the Porsche I had never owned a car with any sort of active dampers, I now have active dampers and air suspension and can see what all the fuss is about.

Comfort seats are worth looking out for if you like comfort.

Yeah, I was tricked into the comfort seats. The family wanted the nappa leather and you had to have the comfort seats to get it.

At least you got the electric steering column and electric memory along with the comfort part of the seats. Almost too many adjustments though!

Round where I live the roads are like the surface of the moon. When I was speaking to the dealer who had the sophisto one he told me that the gov still weren't allowing him to open up officially so test drives out of the question due to social distancing. So if I find a good one and put a deposit on it, in the month or more before I can go drive it another one pops up thats even better then I've got to awkwardly ask for the deposit back:eek:

I'm really fussy about comfort when I want it like driving in the lanes round here or after eating:D. Basically the BMW needs to be better than my current car which has a sport suspension and in my view is way too harsh as standard (you can't change it with any controls). Yeah will definitely test drive it's just a matter of waiting until dealers will do it. Too much of a risk to buy remotely.

Today I officially got 2yrs no claims  so I'm really proud of myself. The 520d will be a 20BHP increase from what I'm driving currently so not massive but I think it will perform better and sprint faster.

Just to put it into perspective, I always felt the F10 Msport suspension was softer than the E60, albeit with the M172 wheels, non-run flats were fitted.

You can’t help but have a soft spot for the E60. This was taken in France

My current car does it in 8 secs I think and honestly at the beginning it's great turbo diesel, you really think you're going places then that torque curve gets the better of you and you start waiting. Overall it's not bad at all to me at this point in my life but I think the 520 will be nippier.

One day when I've got tons of no claims and the lottery....................:D:cool:

Can't beat a good old air suspension on a lux barge!
