    Yes I tend to agree. Only if money's no object and you want total peace of mind you should take out the warranty methinks. Don't forget though, some repairs come to much more than £1200... :sick:

    I would always be going for the BMW Emergency (Breakdown) Service - even if I didn't take the warranty part.

    Agreed. The breakdown component is worth the money.

    That does sound expensive. I personally would not spend that much on an extended warranty if there have been no issues so far. Only IMO - YMMV of course.
    My 330d is only half that figure. I guess it's the higher mileage that's inflating the premium.

    So BMW are basically saying their cars are more likely to fail at 60k miles and beyond. I would be happier if that figure was 100k miles.

    My thoughts exactly. I would not have thought the risk factor of a breakdown on a 60K mileage car would not be that much worse if it's got FSH and clear history?

    In reality it provides a nice buffer from which car repairs can be taken. Car ownership is about budget and planning, which sounds weird from us lot who drool over cars :eek:

    @Cotswold BMW do you happen to know if there's any movement on warranty costs if you call them up? As to go from £500 for a 2nd year at purchase, to £3.5k for the following year, seems a bit steep to me.

    I doubt there is, but I'm not expert on the matter. It's done by BMW UK, so out of the hands of us at the dealers. That's a big jump mind :sick:

    @Ninjagirl May I ask any previous “significant” claims history on the manufacturers 3 year warranty or post 3 years old insured warranty product on this or any historical BMW vehicles?

    I too was somewhat flabbergasted at the premium on 3 year old sub 30k mileage 7 series and went to BMW UK, dealer service manager and two or three separate individuals on the insured warranty phone line but was assured at all levels that the premium is vehicle model specific, is non negotiable and the same for all customers looking to purchase the warranty product.

    only major claim is one bank of throttle actuators and a couple of pulley bearings. The acutators are pretty much the only weak point on the engine.

    That doesn't sound right. These are the premiums provided recently for a 2012 S65 with 36k miles

    Surely those factors would reduce the premium not increase it !

    I understand there is a flat rate for models/mileage in a given range. Never heard of a penalty for claiming, that would be just absurd. Has it changed of recent months? Would be great PR, if BMW supply a 'Friday car' and then charge us more when it repeatedly goes wrong! Should be the other way around if anything, reduce the premium if we have repeated faults and failures. :whistle:

    The fact the extended warranty goes up after just 60k miles is not a vote of confidence (by BMW) in their own product anyway.:rolleyes:

    hmm I wonder what my extended warranty cost will be next year when my warranty runs out, has the extended warranty costs gone up significantly? I recall on my 320D ED i was paying approx £46 a month for comp. and £100 excess, i'm hoping that doesn't go up tooo much like some of the quotes above.

    Maybe i'll try find a AUC car of similar spec that is older to get an idea...
