Good luck with that. I sold mine rather than have the hassle for a second time.
Car (G30) dropped off at the dealers for the EGR recall ...got a G31 for the day.
Apparently BMW UK have sent out a further 15000 recall letters in the last week, 4 and 6 cylinder engines.
Dealership say the parts supply is is much improved and they have new EGRs in stock. If mine does need replacing they reckon it will be done today !
I’d be very surprised if it’s done today but we’ll see.
I would be amazed if it's done today, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it...I think they assume 99.9% of customers are unaware of the problems this recall has caused.
Certainly as compared to a few months ago when you couldn't even get a service appointment for 2 months nor a space on the car park owing to cars awaiting dw EGRs the situation is much improved
Well me flabber is well and truly gasted. Had a message on my voicemail, saying car was ready to collect so I assumed EGR was fine when inspected.
Take the courtesy car back to be told that they had indeed changed the EGR ! Apparently was "showing signs and we've been told not to take any risks, slightest sign of a problem and has to be replaced". It had not displayed any of the symptoms, 28 months old done 18k.
So less than 2 weeks from receiving the recall letter to getting the work done, it would have been quicker but I was busy.
Think I will now by a lottery ticket
Our cars had an engine management light for a few weeks now...
Courtesy of Dave @bishbosh, we’ve read the fault code twice as related to the egr controller position sensor.. out of range/ open cct
Just as an update in case anyone else falls fowl of this.., egr cooler was replaced in May...
Anyway after a short battle with sytners of Sheffield they’ve agreed to replace the said part this Friday, foc.... after we kindly reminded them that they’d only been faffing around in this area 6 months ago...
I’ll keep you posted...

Car collected.. egr valve now replaced foc... wife drives away... car sills all dirty, despite courtesy wash.... engine management light still on..!!!
Quick switch off and on again. As she Pulled up down the road..Light now gone out...!! Job done properly..? God knows...
As an aside they’re more interested in you sitting down, serving you coffee, telling us today at least 4 times that the job was a good will gesture from bmw.. than actually getting on with the task in hand and giving us the keys back so we could just get on our way...
What is wrong with these dealers these days..?

Fixed that for you
Multi franchise dealerships without the personal customer service of the original small or family owned dealers of the past. Everyone working there is just an employee without the incentive to go above and beyond. It's called progress!
I hope that your car is now fixed.
Tarred > brush, but you're largely correct.
i posted here in December 2018 that i had my EGR check done when my F07 went in for a rear suspension air bag fault, was told that no parts available would inform me 2019 when part in stock.
had safety recall letter in FEB saying action required, rang dealer got fobbed off as thousands of letters sent out.
another letter June 2019 saying urgent action required, fobbed of again.
this morning Email from BMW saying they had been trying to contact me by post and could i go on line with VIN number, have done that and says to arrange for car to be checked for EGR recall.
Has any one else had this messing around,
just to point out EGR checked out ok last year and car still working ok at the moment.
Mine went in twice - first time they said it was due recall for EGR, said it was ok and they adjusted it accordingly (no replacement needed) then next time i went there they said it needed checking again.. so i let them just do it.. mine is 320D, no 5 series.
Yes kept getting fobbed off for 9 months by local dealer, Eastern in Edinburgh. Also got quoted £100 more than the online quote for a service. I went to Vardy in Edinburgh and received service at quoted price and EGR given all clear.
l was in my local dealers today and was told that there was a new EGR cooler recall on my 2015 F07 5GT
My EGR cooler was checked and given a clean bill of health on January 24th 2019 no further action required, so l was surprised to be told that the new safety recall was replacement required regardless of condition, the service adviser said that it would be done today and three hours after dropping the car off the it was returned to me with the EGR cooler replaced
l hope your dealer gets yours replaced whilst it is in for the rear suspension airbag replacement
I mentioned to Williams today about EGR and they agreed that there was an updated EGR available.
they have been messing you around for long enough so lets hope they finally get yours replaced and the safety recall closed off for you
New recall issued Jan 2020 mines been changed while in for idrive warranty work
So even though my EGR valve and cooler were replaced before the original recall and then subsequently checked last year again and confirmed as okay I got a call today to book my 640d in for the quality enhancement of a further new EGR cooler...The new part is in stock and ready to fit. Car booked in for next Monday night with allegedly an 840i as a courtesy car for 24 hours..
Don't forget pics and a brief review.
