Here’s a tip I read about that seems to work.

To clean a leather or alcantara steering wheel I have used a damp microfibre cloth to great effect. Wash it out in hot water and wring out well.

I used it on the steering wheel in my C63S and also in my son’s car. He bought an M135i with 48k miles and the steering wheel looked “cruddy”. After wiping it with the above, it came up like new and nice and Matt.

    No products on the cloth?
How does a damp micro-fibre cloth manage to get the ingrained muck off?

It’s hot which helps, but try it and see how you get on.

Ah, didn’t note the hot part. That makes sense, definitely worth a try. Mine is 8 years old and has 84K of life in the leather. Shall see how that comes out.

Wrap it round and grip and then twist. A good number of times. Keep rinsing and be surprised at the colour of the water.

I clean seats with the same method, if overly dirty I take the steam mop out, I’d imagine it’d be hard to mop a steering wheel though...
Dash crevices, carpets, mats, seats & lower window channels all get a blast of boiling water

Great bit of kit with multiple uses around the house, including sanitising a preteen child

No products needed, then afterwards a quick brush over with a nubuck brush

    Good tip.

I always clean the steering wheels of cars after I get them. It’s disgusting how much comes off the wheel of a car even at just a year or so old.

Rightly or wrongly I use a few wet wipes on leather or plastic steering wheels of any second hand cars that I've bought. It's seeing the dirt that comes off that has always put me off Alcantara steering wheels, as nice as they look and feel when new.

The Alcantara actually cleans up really easily and doesn’t seem to have worn at all (now at 34k miles). It’s much more hard wearing than I thought and there’s some anorak info about it on the web.
