I've just had a look at this website and there are a couple of possible recalls that apply to my vehicle based on the build dates.
Whats the procedure for getting them checked?
Can I ring BMW service and they can tell from my vin number?
    Any advice/ideas?

Or drop me a message with your chassis number. I can paste it into the service tool which will bring up anything outstanding

Well, thank you to Ed at CBMW for carrying out the check and confirming an outstanding relatively minor software fix.
I use an indy in Lincolnshire for my servicing etc which I have used for around 10 years on all the Beemers I've had and they have been brilliant but they can't do these recalls apparently.
So I ring my local main dealer and they confirm the same software update is needed but want the car for a whole day, umm!
I then contact Simon of E-maps who has done his stuff on my car and to check that the main dealer is not likely to undo his great work.
He re-assures me that I have nothing to worry about and the update should take less than an hour so I contact the main dealer again to book the car in.
I figure there is no harm in getting them to check the recall again and this time I get told that it's a fuel pump replacement is needed not a minor software fix, umm!
OK I say I best book it in pronto. Well as usual there is another department for "booking in" so when I get put through I think lets query what the recall is for again.
It's for the minor software update I'm told and absolutely not for a fuel pump.
Now I know we human beings can make mistakes so its not a cheap dig at an employee but it is never the less very worrying that even despite checking with the chassis number you get conflicting results.
Anyway fair do's to the reservations guy after several checks he insists that they need the car for at least half a day and it's definitely not a recall for the fuel pump but the software and I've got a loan car for the day anyway.
The moral of the story is.................. I use my trusted indy because.................discuss.

    Update
Credit where credit is due. Took my car to Sytner Nottingham for the CAS software update. Got a brand new loan car for the day and my car came back fully washed and polished. I've never seen it look cleaner and more gleaming. Great service and didn't cost me a penny. I also got a detailed update on the state of my winter tyres which I run all year round and that was very interesting also.
I will post the details separately on my post under the X5 section.

Took my car to Chandlers of Hailsham after finding out my 318i 2002 had an airbag recall and was treated like royalty, my misses and I sat down in the waiting area and was greeted by a woman who offered and made us a great mug of coffee each in their BMW mugs which I really wanted to keep lol
When they took my car in they said it would take up to an hour and a half so we went for some lunch along the road from them and did a little shopping and walked back.
When we got back we were once again offered another coffee and sat down because they had finished the car but was just being valeted which was about a half an hour wait, we were finally greeted by someone with the keys to my car and told all was done. Not one penny in their pocket but they still treated us like royalty and the car valet was amazing it was like a new car.

That's nice to hear. Complete opposite at my local dealer when I went in with £35K to spend, waited 2 hours before I left.
