I dropped my car in for an interim oil change, brake fluid and MOT this morning, we had agreed £299 plus the MOT (£54). However, in the time between booking and taking it in the vehicle check came up on the idrive, so I asked them what is involved in that and its basically what was the old inspection 1 service including fuel filter and air filter, which obviously needs doing - £606 pleaes Sir! So I queried why a fuel filter and air filter would be an extra £300? I was given a list of what they do which was things like check the tyres (new yesterday), check the washer fluid (filled yesterday), check wiper blade (new) etc. Basically all the things that a good owner would do themselves. Anyway, £606 plus the MOT for a load of things I don't need doing, and that does not include microfilter I feel like my pants have been pulled down. One question, my old (2012 530d GT) car was two years old and 26K miles when I bought it, I sold it at 4 years old and 50K miles and I never had this inspection done, it never appeared on the idrive to my knowledge. My current car is three years old on the 28th July and only 28k miles, its essentially the same car, so what has changed? Very strange.
Just checked at https://www.bmw-service.co.uk/##your-vehicle for 'Vehicle Service Check', covers the following: (was quoted £44 plus £19 'Standard Scope' for mine) Could be worth plugging your reg in and see what it comes back with
Just checked mine, shows exactly the same as yours so guess the same for 3 series. Mine is £0 as i have a service pack until 2021 as I was lucky it came with remainder of 5 year service plan So i'm now curious... A road test will be carried out if required how do they determine this? if they have enough time? weather is nice and fancy a cruise? need to take something to another local garage? bit vague. Kev
Are you sure your leg is not being lifted by Berrys. As far as I have always been aware the vehicle check service is a visual check of the car. Fuel and air filters would normally be changed when the car was in for is CBS based servicing ?
Just check with reg number YF63 MDU (535D M Sport GT on AUC) and it came back as the same price as mine... £44 + £19 Standard Scope
So how do you know what service it requires each year? I presume oil service is engine and oil service? but how do you know if it needs filters? My Car currently shows this... unsure which of the 2 engine oil services it needs.. plus i had it serviced this year so I presume this is for next year the options it shows? £554 for oil and filters seems a bit high no? Can't imagine it takes more than an hour to do?? Kev
I think you’ve been taken for a good one.... Circa third service 54000 miles before fuel and air filters are changed -every third oil change based on 18000 every two year interval
I phoned BMW UK late this afternoon to complain that the pricing did not match the website and that I had been told I needed to pay £99 to regas the AC on a car still in warranty. They said they would call the dealer and get back to me, they did not. So the final chapter today. I picked the car up at 5.30pm as asked, was kept waiting 15 mins to see the service advisor. When I finally saw her she was very helpful and I showed her the website print out using the reg number from Adie above, she agreed that something was adrift and knocked the invoice from £775 to £542 inc Vat. I was happy with that but still maintain I did not need the fuel or air filter change, but it’s done now. So for that money I got: Oil service Fuel filter Air filter Brake fluid change Washer fluid MOT Vehicle check AC service. I got sent the video where the technician shows the underneath of the car, he actually says ‘the rear differential is still in place’. What a joker. Anyway, they did not wash it as requested but when I got half way home I realised they had not reset the service indicator or entered the service history in the idrive, so back I went for another 30 min wait, I was told it was my fault as I had left the service book on the seat which they stamped, apparently this made them forget to reset the Idrive. I finally left at 7pm. Considering the tyres were new yesterday the depths are ‘interesting’. What a hassle these dealers are.
wow seems steep...I thought you were quoted £606? how did it get to £775? Surely it should have been agreed £299 plus the MOT (£54) plus £44 + £19?? These things make me glad i have service plan and make we wonder if worth paying dealers after to keep FSH as its soo expensive. Kev
On my ED they wanted to do air con service at 2 years, which was i think £89? then a year later they said it was due again, I said really? i had it done last year, she looked it up and said oh yes, that's ok then you wont need it Kev
