As I was in the area, I went to see this the other weekend: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201807028032153 The CatD was 5 years ago, the history checked with BMW, and I thought there was an outside chance I might bag a bargain. However, the car was badly misfiring... the seller knew this as he warned me before I started the car. When put in to gear, the engine felt like it was going to self-destruct... clearly running on quite a few less than the requisite 6 cylinders. Could be failed injectors (known problem with that engine) or head gasket... whatever, it was f$%&ed! Annoyed that the seller had kept that quiet until I arrived, despite a couple of phone chats and text exchanges, and not wanting some other poor sap to suffer a wasted journey, when I returned home I reported the advert to Auto Trader as inaccurate. It says "good condition considering its age"... well an 8 year old car in good condition should be running on all its cylinders, I would've thought. AutoTrader have done nothing seemingly, which has surprised me a little, as I thought they may take such misleading quite seriously. Should I care? Would you bother to press this with AutoTrader? My inner sense of fair play wants me to take this further... whilst my inner laziness says move on.
I agree. They are a money-making machine, that's all. Sales £330m, of which profit £220m. Page 4 in here: https://cdn-autotraderplc.azureedge.net/media/1532/aut_ar2018.pdf That is a remarkably profitable organisation.
Wow, that's quite spectacular. I suppose having no genuine competitor means they can do what they like. Still, I don't understand having a "Report Ad" mechanism if it means nothing.
Just not worth chasing this up, if Autotrader don t care , why should you . Agree with you about the Report Ad mechanism , no point in having it if it s not followed up .
I feel sorry for the person who actually buys it. Shameful. However, I do think this is the minority, I for one always prep my cars and have the servicing up to date pre sale, I’m sure others do too.
