Hi everyone, this is my first post so apologies if it’s in the wrong section.
    I have a 2008 335i m sport manual with 60k.
Recently I’ve had a half yellow half black engine management light come on when I accelerate hard.
This stays on until I turn the car off and then it’s gone again., the car seems a little down on power even before the light comes on.
I plugged a friends code reader in and it had no codes stored, it works on his 2000 325i, are there different types of reader?
My question is, before I take it in, has anyone else had a problem like this?
Also I’ve noticed a rattle on cold start up but this is only until the valve in the exhaust shuts and then it’s fine, so I’m hoping that’s just the valve itself rattling?
    I love this car!
    Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    A couple of things

Carbon coked intake - Common on the 335i
Faulty Coil Pack - Common on the 335i
Camshaft Sensor - Common on the 335i
Found MAF sensor - Common on the 335i, more so if a performance Air Filter is fitted

The coked intake, will not generate a fault code

Thanks for that. I did wonder if it was worth giving the filter a blowout with compressed air.
It’s due a service so I’ll get them to have a look when I take it in.
Any idea what the idea is behind the exhaust valve? It just seems to make it louder when I start it up!!
I am awaiting the dreaded T word!

If it is the exhaust valve rattling that is not an uncommon problem but unrelated to your performance issue.
