I got in the car this morning and when tried to start it really struggled to start, sounded like ticking over for ages before eventually firing up. Once started I had multiple lights appear on the dash and multiple faults as well as the car going into limp mode.
    •DSC failure
    •DBC failure
    •start assistance failure
    •flat tyre monitor failure

Can anyone help me diagnose the problem??

Sounds very much like a flat battery to me. These cause loads of electrical fault codes if low. Electrical systems are very susceptible to low voltage.

New battery would be my way to go.

    Welcome to the forum @Woody0404

I reckon we need a bit more info from you.

To start - how old is the car - but more importantly how old is the battery?

What model - petrol or diesel?

The car is an 08 so 11 years old.
    It’s a 330i m sport petrol coupe.
I’ve had the car nearly 5 years and not had the battery replaced.

Is there a way to test the battery to see if it’s that for definite?

Any decent auto-electrician will be able to give a definitive opinion as to the state of the battery - and check the health of the charge coming from the alternator which is suspect number 2.

Given your replies about the age, my bet is it's the battery.

p.s. best not to go to Halfrauds as they will tell you you need everything replaced - including new brakes and tyres.

Hahah yea I will stay well clear of Halfords. There’s an NPA and eurocarparts near me so will pop in and see how much a new battery is. Do they need to be coded when replacing the battery? Also can I check the voltage using a volt metre myself?

I’ve just tested the battery and it’s reading 12.2 volts? Is this normal?

Have a look at the negative battery cable if it's just 1 thick cable then no coding but if it has the thick 1 and some thin ones then it needs coding.
Some people just get a like for like battery and don't do any coding.

Last year when I wanted a few bits from Eurocarparts I forgot to order them on line first.
In shop one of the of the items was a bit cheaper than website others same price , but he explained he could not give me the discount , and suggested I order on my phone using the code , he would get conformation of order -------and all went OK , stupid part being I never left the counter.

Does this mean it needs coding?

Obvious confusion here regarding coding vs registering.

If you replace like with like it only requires registering; a different make is fine, but otherwise it needs to be substantially the same.

If the specification is in any way different it will need coding.

Test it with the engine running - it should show +/- 14.4V, being the alternator output.

Last of the lovely creamy smooth 6 cylinder petrol engines. A very nice car.
