Luckily, the fuel price increases don't affect me, I just put 60 quids' worth in every time I fill her up.
Just filled up as I’m off today, Costco £1.589 Everyone had the same idea, I dread to think what the queues will be like tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Unfortunately i think thats the next thing to happen, everyone panic buying petrol before the prices increase anymore. Who knows maybe in a couple of weeks, there will be a lot less cars on the road as everyone asks to work from home to save money.
I'm sure I heard on the news yesterday that Saudi (?) has opened the tap a bit and petrol was down 17p a barrel - I wonder how long that reduction'll take to reflect in the pump prices? Longer than it took the suppliers to hike prices, I'd wager....
Yes very true. As you can see in the number of litres I put in, I needed it however I saw people in and out quickly presumably topping up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
It's all gone crazy. I'm concerned that all the panic buying and people topping up will lead to shortages again and rationing as many filling stations did last time. Max £30 per customer for example we had in some parts of Aberdeenshire. There's also a psychological thing about needing £100 or more to fill the tank. Mainland Europe has hit over €2 / litre in several countries I hear. Looks like I'll have to return to carrying a jerrican in the boot again.
it is sad to say that a lot of garages are just Price gouging and are charging what they can get away with and to me that just stinks l am all for a fair days pay for a fair days work but i hate profiteering with a passion a garage has stocks on site that they bought and paid for at the older price but they are still increasing prices sometimes twice a day to keep up with the market price rather that waiting untill they have new stocks at at the new price we have a garage near hear that only has a fairly small turn over and has maybe has one load of fuel a week but prices are increasing daily because they are Price gouging. and as mentioned above it will be a long time before we see any price reductions now the price per barrel has started to fall a little
The flip side of this is if the garage has stocks and the price goes down to the extent it has recently been going up ---- he will not be able to sell it at above the local prices so will have to make a loss. I may add I am retired and never been involved in the garage trade (except as a customer). I normally buy from the same Shell garage but make a point of checking prices on the car screen first. As I normally use VPower I do need to check as it can be 8/9p dearer at my normal garage but up to 20p in one I called in (just bought a coffee)
but that is not the case as we all know that as the price per barrel goes up the pump prices rise immediately and as soon as the prices fall the pump prices do not immediately follow and will take a lot longer for the price decrease to filter through the one section of the market that keeps the retail fuel industry in check are the supermarkets and they are very keen to get the pump price down as quickly as possible as low pump prices increase foot fall instore for us we never see that effect as our nearest supermarket with fuel is a 36 mile round trip so what they do will not affect the price we have to pay locally. we have to make a 60 mile round trip to get to a town that has multiple supermarket fuel retailers and this is where the fuel prices tend to be the keenest but again we never see any effect of this competition so l very rarely fill up locally and tend to fill up when out and about to avoid paying artificially inflated prices locally
Our local Sainsbury is usually competitively priced, and £1.67/litre for diesel last week. However, ran out of supplies last Friday. Assume all ok now as I don't believe there is a shortage. Local village garage £1.95 a litre. Some people use this. Why? Sorry, rhetorical question. Sainsbury is 6 miles away.
Have you stopped cleaning it now that the new car is on order Just put some unleaded in the Fiesta shopping trolley at £159.9 at Macclesfield Tesco - diesel was 7 p a litre more.
What I find annoying is Tesco (I don't know about others) charge for Petrol / derv but provide electric top ups FoC for electric cars. Chap opposite informs me he calls in Tescos when travelling just to top up his battery for free.
Brent Crude has fallen $20 a barrell since last week Retailers put prices up 2/3 times a day but not so keen to reduce them
That explains why diesel at my local Tesco has gone up by another 7p a litre since last week. Just completed a biz trip today, thought I'd see if I could economise a bit. Managed about 150 miles at just over 65 mpg according to the OBC. A 10% improvement in fuel consumption is worth 17p a litre...
My mrs has suddenly found this ‘new’ button now she’s putting the fuel in for work at 340 mile round trip each week…..she told me she’d pressed it once on each journey leg… Normally she’s blasting around every where in sports mode….. wiping the polar bears off the planet fast enough to raise David Attenborough’s eye brows..
