I’ve been waiting for the “Black Friday” discounts, have just paid for the Connected+ options on my F32. Down from £99 to £66.

Service pick savings of 30% being offered as well. Possibly worth a look.

All depends upon the spec the car left the factory with. Mine is a 2017 with the professional Nav/media etc, but no software upgrade available for ApplePlay. Reason being that the car doesn’t have a NFC charging upgrade, for some bizarre reason you can’t have ApplePlay without this option.
You can do a physical add on, there are kits out there. Not official BMW though, BimmerTech kits and some cheaper clones.

I've just renewed RTTI for my Nav system at £34.30 saving 30%. (previously £49).
I've been saving money on the Black Friday deals for a few years now - long may it continue.

Just had a look for me, prices are:-

    Map Update package - £55.30
    RTTI - £34.30
Connected package plus (includes: Remote Services, BMW Online, Online Speech Processing*, USB Map Update, Real Time Traffic Information) £69.30

tbh I only really wanted the Map update (was hoping would of been 2 years instead of 1 year) and not worried about over the air map updates as never worked for me so USB is fine so now a decision of do I simply go for £55.30 or pay the £69.30 and have the benefit of RTTI, remote services.. for 1 year. Doubt I will renew next year, but may renew the year after. Also still trying to decide whether to change car or stick with what i have but value is decreasing somewhat now but so far no problems that I'm aware of anyway and I'm hoping 1 more service on the service plan.

    Kev

For the £69 package I thought it worth while, even though I’d only just bought the 2020/1 usb maps. Gives me the option to update in 2021 when the latest maps are out for mine.
Already tried the RTTI and seems to be good, albeit on a short journey.
Can’t get the OnLine to work yet though, have sent a query email to BMW as I get the following error message:

    Hi all

I’ve just been to the ConnectedDrive store for my vehicle and looks like I’m eligible for The 30% service plan discount . However, my car is just under 5 years old (end of the year it will turn 5). But then the small print says for cars before their first service? I’m confused... would anyone know if it’s only for new cars or used cars can also be eligible? At £600 odd, it seems cheap ? 640i msport .

    thanks all

I was confused by this one as well, reading the small print it seems to only be available for cars that have not yet had their first service, so only accounts for nearly new cars.
Mine is a June 2017 car and doesn’t seem to be eligible. Bad advertising I think.

Don't think I will bother this yr as the RTTI is poor as is the nav compared to online nav these day

I find RTTI excellent. Yesterday coming back from Reading to Witney within 800 yards of the main junction roundabout of the A34/A420 outside Oxford, I got a message saying I was being rerouted along the A420 (instead of carrying on up the A34). The RTTI was showing the red line on the map for slow-moving or stationary traffic on the upper part of the A34. We followed the new route.
By comparison, on my wife's phone, the Google route (she often runs it) did not show this.

All down to personal choice. BMW Nav system might not be perfect, but it's built into the dashboard. The last thing I want is an aftermarket GPS stuck to the windscreen with wires dangling everywhere. I've also found RTTI to be useful, if not essential - it has saved me being stuck in long tail backs more than once. The other thing I like about BMW Nav system is "send to car", so that destinations can be done from the comfort of my arm chair.

    Agreed!
I used it on X3 years ago on the old android app. With the new app on my X1, I find it is even quicker. Just send to the car and go to messages and then select the message with the destination in it. Job done.(y)

Realised that the on line apps weren’t working on the car, had some advice from the CD help desk. Needed to update BMW services and bingo.

I decided to get my map updates from an 'alternative source' as my experience with the official BMW system has only given me an average of one per year over the last 5 years.

Sorry to sound negative and would love to be proved wrong, and convinced to buy the RTTI service but unfortunately my experience of RTTI didn't go well either - I was keen to try it and get as much useful info on journeys as it was possible to find - especially on unfamiliar routes - but I was left distinctly underwhelmed and happy when the month free trial finished.

I have the standard TMC and I get diversions and info about standing traffic and accidents without RTTI - I even get little pictograms showing what the problem is - for example an animal on the motorway is shown with a deer and a ?

What I really would like to do sometime is run in convoy with my daughter in her X5 or my grandson in his M2 both of whom have RTTI just to see the exact difference.

Maybe I didn't have the RTTI set up correctly when I had a months trial as just filled the screen with unnecessary info - most were many miles off my chosen route - but that was in Germany where I believe the RTTI gives much more than in the UK - anyone else any experience of it on mainland Europe?

Can it be turned off temporarily or better still switch between TMC and RTTI ?

For those with RTTI - what happened when your subscription ended? Did it revert to TMC and did you notice a distinct loss/lack of info?

If you are convinced you will get no benefit from RTTI, then so be it. In my opinion, there is a huge benefit to using it as opposed to using TMC, especially with the update speed. It is a godsend around this area in the UK.

    Have you read the blog?
    https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/08/18/how-to-use-rtti-on-idrive-6-and-os-7-0-platforms/
    From the blog.....
Edit. I have numbered relevant paragraphs for later reading.

    1. But, there’s one step needed before RTTI is fully functional in your BMW. In models equipped with the iDrive 6 (also known as “NBT Evo”), you can activate RTTI by going to Navigation, entering the Settings menu, and then ticking the “Receive traffic information” box. Afterwards, the RTTI symbol appears in the toolbar of the map view.

    2. Thus, the RTTI symbol can be used to check the overall traffic situation ahead of a planned route. If you want the route guidance to take into consideration all the relevant traffic information provided by the RTTI, you must activate “Dynamic guidance” from the Route settings menu.

    3. To activate the RTTI-based navigation, select NAV, then Settings, Route criteria, and, finally, set the Dynamic route guidance to Automatic.

    @Singvogel Bob
I never have the list of diverts (umleitung :rolleyeses: ) showing on the left-hand side of the screen. Again IMHO the list only serves as a distraction, so I have it off. If I want to know what traffic information is causing hold-ups ahead, I zoom out on the map and it shows the red lines of congestion ahead.

As stated in my previous post I was automatically diverted off the A34 the other night because of congestion/hold-ups. Additionally on my X3 some years ago, no less than 3 times I was told that my route had been changed due to traffic information/conditions. When zoomed out I could see the red line on the affected road.

I do not wish to tell you how to suck eggs, but the following US video explains how one system is set so no list is shown.

Mine being a different system on the latest 2020 LCI X1 with Pro Sat Nav is different to the one above, because the touch screen makes for different ways of doing things.

    Peter
