Most economical hack?

    One of the more "unfashionable" makes

    Skoda /Seat / Toyota or a diesel Mondeo .....you would get something newer, less miles than buying BMW ?
    Passat blu motion ?

    I can confirm that the likes of Prius are just not suited to motorway driving. I’ve had a few hybrid cars through Enterprise over the past few years and they are poor for motorway driving. The little engine just screams, the electric part is rarely used due to the speeds etc.
    Petrol economy wasn’t anything to write home about, always better in the non hybrid versions I had.

    at dual carriageway/motorway speed it would be 320d for me

    Same here. My son has a 320d (F30) and gets 60+ mpg on motorway driving. Very comfortable and can shift if you need it too.:)
