Just had my NFU insurance renewal for the 330D in - £442 for the year - not the cheapest perhaps, but it's payable monthly at no extra cost, and very importantly for us we get a Green Card for Bosna i Herrcegovena, Serbia, and a few other ex-Jugo countries which no other insurance company will touch - also at no added cost.

But - they have highlighted a change to the policy - not only on the Schedule, but on the actual Insurance Certificate itself as well:

You are not covered for ........ Nürburgring Nordschleife driving .....

First time I've seen the 'Ring specifically mentioned as a 'No-No'. :(

Being the NFU I can still tow a horse-box and carry up to 2000 shotgun cartridges though.

    That old Chestnut.

British insurers have got out of claims with the standard, no closed circuit / pace making etc. My understanding is that under EU rules, you are covered for third party claims, BUT the insurer can try and claim the costs back from you. By stating specifically, no Nordschleife, they are trying to make it clearer I guess, but I think that during the transition at least, the EU rules still apply, albeit still only third party.

So has mine, IIRC the reason being that under German law, the public sessions define the circuit as a 1-way toll road, not a race track (which, interestingly means that the usual rules of the road in Germany apply...)

I have one policy that covers me on it. The others don’t and it hasn’t stopped me going and driving without insurance.

    Cheers

Agreed. However, 90% plus of the people who go there will not have insurance specifically for that is my guess as unless you know where to look it’s nearly impossible to get cover for there.

90% of the uk drivers that vist do probably drive the ring with no insurance and are probably oblivious to their liability in the event of an accident. and that they are probably liable for the damage suffered to other cars that crash as a result of their spill so if things go wrong it could be an expensive mistake

I was lucky enough to have my company car insurers cover me in return for me agreeing to £2k excess. It helped that I was good friends with the director who dealt with insurance for the business.

If you really want to go - and everybody should go at least once in their lifetime - here’s a guide.

Interesting lap. He obviously knows his way round if he's been doing it 20 years.
    I wouldn't mind a go, but in something a bit sportier than a 330d.

Looks good fun, but not quite as exciting as doing a fast lap of the IOM TT course on a quick bike.

I did it in my long gone F10 530d company car, so a 330d would be fine.

I rode bikes for years - including lots of track days - and most definitely would NOT wish to ride the TT course. Far too crazy!

It can be, especially nowadays when there are so many foreign bikers. But it's far safer now they have the Mountain section one way from Ramsey to the Bungalow. We would ride around a thousand miles during TT week, mainly doing laps in between race days. Of course you have to contend with normal traffic, but the locals expect to be passed by lots of fast bikes . Great fun! Although my current bike is more of a tourer than the sports bikes that I've owned in the past. :)

I must have been lucky then - mine only went up 7.5%
