Ok so considering doing the above when the time comes. I have the staggered setup 19" rims on my 330 xd with active suspension. Anyone done this on an xd? Appreciate I will need a bottle of something in the boot and to make sure tyres are the same spec. Thanks Pete
I would just make sure that whatever you fit, they are BMW (*) rated tyres or you may have problems on an xDrive.
I’ve no idea about the x-drive issue, but on my E92 I’ve decided to stick with RFTs following some of the recent “smart” motorway issues. I really don’t want to be sat at the side of the motorway dreading what could be. To be fair the ride on the car is hard, but not unbearable, and the tyres are certainly lasting. 18k+ onto the Bridgestones and still plenty of wear left. What are the “official” BMW guidelines on this?
I have Pirelli P Zero runflats on the 19" wheels my F30, also with adaptive suspension, and they have been excellent. They handle very well and are reasonably quiet and refined. I don't know what tyres you have, but the Pirellis may be worth a try. I've already had the benefit of using runflats, where normal tyres would have left me stranded at a dangerous location (narrow coast road with blind bends etc.).
Can't see why as long as the same size, its the rolling circumference that screws up xd from what I've been told
Why not stay with BMW * rated , they cost no more ,I have just bought for the X1 Peter recently put theTIS sheets up for tyre recommendations
Only reiterating the advice given to me by the service manager from the dealership in Scotland that replaced my damaged tyre. He knew I was a visitor, so I think that it was good advice - he seemed like a very genuine chap. He said that they'd had to replace the transfer box on a number of xDrives that had been fitted with obscure tyre brands.
I remember @Peter commenting on BMW star rated tyres on an earlier thread here: https://www.bmwland.org.uk/index.php?threads/x-drive-transmission-wind-up.1615/#post-25213
The problem with generic tyres, even of the same dimensions as the OEM approved tyres, there is no guarantee the RC is within BMW tolerances for staggered wheel sets. Tyres have manufacturing tolerances and simply taking any tyre of a given nominal size could mean the RC is quite different in use to the approved tyres. Can be a gamble getting the best non approved setup. Peter
I think this is poor from BMW and completely puts me off X Drive - no such need on an Audi https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=86&t=1121858 Although I don't like them their Quattro system seems less fussy...
See my other post Some of this does sound like bollocks Car from bmw supplied has 22” wheels... Fronts are 275/35/22. 751 mm dia ... so that’s 3mm dia more than rears which are 315/30/22 747 mm Dia In the USA and South Africa... the car can be supplied with an off-road pack... which has the car supplied with general grabber AT3..are those star marked..?
