Morning all Looking to change my pads next week but don't have a jack, previously I used a BMW scissor jack but looking to purchase an affordable trolley jack and then maybe buy an aluminium bmw adaptor to sit in the cup. Just wondering what makes and models you all use and rcommend
Try a forum Search, this has been discussed before. I have the Costco one, but others have reported on the SGS equivalent. For the 'pad', search eBay for ones there, made from ice hockey pucks.
l had a standard sealey Yankee jack that l used on the 520 but when l bought the 5GT it was a struggle to get the jack under the M sport side skirt https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637173103/trolley-jack-2tonne-short-chassis so if you get one like that Make sure it is low entry when l bought the 5GT l got the same jack that slim mentions from costco and it is fantastic much better than my old sealey but they seem to have changed to a different model jack now and this is the nearest to the one l have that l could find but in costco it was change from £100.00 https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-ctj2500qlg-2-5-tonne-aluminium-garage-j/ this is the one they stock now https://www.costco.co.uk/Tyres-Auto...Low-Profile-Trolley-Jack-Model-03675/p/253398 here is the hockey puck that l use on the jack pad l also have an aluminium one but the rubber ones are cheaper and work just fine https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-RUBB...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Got a couple of these when they were on offer. They weigh a ton but have no safety concerns https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637173254/trolley-jack-2tonne-high-lift-low-entry EDIT: Just dug out the invoice, i paid £228.06 for each of mine in Oct 2013, glad a bought when i did
Costco still had the trolley jack in stock which @slim_boy_fat referred to, last time I was there (Manchester). It has a very low height on the arm.
the one that l linked above on the Costco website does not look to be as good quality as the one that slim got for me a couple of years back that is the one that l have got now that is the one they have on their website now
I was talking about my last visit to Costco Warehouse at Manchester. The one they had instore was the red Arcan jack in the first photo, which also has thick aluminium side plates. Looked good quality. I don't buy from Costco online, so have no idea what's on the website. No guarantees that it will still be in store, as they have all the Christmas stock in. But you can phone any Costco and ask them to check to see whether they have it in stock.
Cheers for the replies lads, I've used the one i had from Euro Car Parts about 2 years ago which has been fine but since getting a BMW again I've notice the diameter of the cup is only about 35mm so not big enough to drop one of the BMW adapters into safely. The majority of the one above all appear to have a larger or flat cup so will definitely do the job! I like the look of the Arcan and Clarke jacks, they both look very similar. Only issue with the Arcan one is id have to renew my Costco membership
If yours is like mine, the shaped puck type fit into the jacking point and remove any chance of deforming it. For the few £££s it costs I'd not consider being without one.
@slim_boy_fat mentioned the SGS engineering jacks earlier in this tread here is the one very similar to the one on the Costco website now and is a tenner cheaper delivered https://www.sgs-engineering.com/tj2-5lp-low-profile-garage-trolley-jack the SGS race jack which is very similar to the Arcan jack we were talking about is a bit dearer https://www.sgs-engineering.com/tja25-aluminium-trolley-jack the cheaper one looks to be ok and l would be happy to use that on my car
Me neither , been known to forget to take the puck off as well but they re such a good fit it s still there when I remember .
Trouble is the diameter of my cup is to small as I think the Puck type are minimum 50 to 70mm diameter, mine it only about 35mm
You're right, my jack is flat at the contact point. In your place I'd make something to fit the recess and bring the level to that of the highest 'lugs'. Two pieces of hardwood, one smaller to fit into the recess and the other to go over them, screwed and glued together [think....inverted 'top hat'] should do the trick and provide a platform for the hockey puck. Hope this helps. This is where having a lathe is handy......
This is exactly what I use, except rather than hardwood (which can split as I found from experience) I use plywood. Another advantage of ply is that the jack top plate tends to dig into the softer wood, lessening the chance of it slipping. The piece that fits in the jacking point is 15 mm ply; the lower is also 15.. but anything substantial would do. I made several from scrap off-cuts for £0. The round puck fits a trolley jack and the curved base fits a scissor jack.
This site is doing the Sealey for £272. I'm very tempted, and TOH said it can be my xmas present. Decisions decisions. https://workshopping.co.uk/jacking-...200hl-trolley-jack-2tonne-high-lift-low-entry
Jesus Some of These costs are astronomical... Run the car on some 6x2 under each front and rear side wheel and forget the low entry jack...!! Cost.. free, if you can find some wood.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's an excellent price. I bought 2 of them back in 2013 when on offer for £228 each. Really heavy duty, far too heavy to lift. I bought them more for the safety aspect than the low entry ability.
