BMW Warranty Driveline of Full Comp?

So any opinions pls car has a FSH (BMW) and 74K on a 64 plate 1 owner. Not sure which way to go or not to bother at all. Difference in cost per month is £47 Driveline £76 full comp.

I went full comp as seemed reasonable price, i forget the excess now but i know i mentioned it on here somewhere a while back, possible was £100 excess.

For me with many complex options, comprehensive was a no brainer. (Cameras and controller alone paid for one years worth of warranty). I suppose it depends on what level of cover vs. options, plus the value of peace of mind you are after.

Remember the comprehensive policy covers 'wear and tear' on most parts, to 100k miles.

@bmwzoom I went for the fully comp incl ES for £520 all in. But you're looking at nearly double that. As @Peter states, you would have the wear covered on that option, which may be useful given your mileage. I guess it depends on how much you value peace of mind, and also whether you have alternative transport should your car be off the road.

 

Look at it this way...fully comp is about £1 a day more and you get piece of mind and wear / tear cover on a complex piece of machinary.

I think I would forgo a couple of pints of beer, couple of coffees, a takeaway, pack of fags etc for that piece of mind, especially when BMW labour rates alone are well north if £100 an hour

 

Always had full comp before but first time buying above 60K so seeing the price hike was a bit much However you make a good point although I don't drink or smoke or takeaway....boring or what however I do like a coffee

 

Option list is huge so a very valid point

 

I'm much the same, never smoked, only drink black coffee, rarely drink etc and every bodies financial situation is different. For that amount fully comp seems to small price to pay.. Have you tried increasing the excess ?

 

Yep £76 a month with £250 or £86 with ES but have a decent RAC package

 

If I remember correct, it works out cheaper if you pay annually?

It does but not sure re mileage when you go over 100K as paying monthly the mileage isn't declared except at the start.

 

Don't quote me but i think the mileage is only when you start the policy, if your under 100k, its then valid for 1 year? Could be wrong though..

I took out the annual full cover for my X3 for £615 with no excess. A cable snapped on the front passenger window and as they have superseded the design you need to change the whole workings and motors on both sides then reprogram them. Total cost would have been £700 plus vat. Was well happy walking out with it all covered without question.

 

Have you looked at Named Component? I guess the cost would fall somewhere between the two.

I had driveline on my old e91 which was beneficial for the timing chain issue. However, once that was done I didn't forsee any other major issues so cancelled the policy a few months later. The next issue I had that I could have claimed for was 5 years down the line! The savings in premium more than covered the cost of the breakdown.

I don't have any cover for the F30 (nerves of steel!).

 

My 12 month used car warranty ran out a month ago. A few phone calls and the prices were sent across via email.



The car is seven years old and has 76K on the clock. Unfortunately I can’t justify the expense of the warranty given current expenses.
So nerves of steel are now needed.....will take some preventative measures such as doing additional oil/filter changes.
Everything crossed.

If you can afford the payments then I think it makes sense.

 

Agree, a lot of the real eye watering components are electrical control units

 

Fully comp here. It's getting to the point where you'll be £100 out of pocket for a dealer workshop to just pull the bonnet release, let alone look in the engine bay. The cost compared to a lower level of cover is significant. But it is insignificant compared to three hours in a bay plus parts. You could get the annual premium back in one visit.

 

Fully comp all the way, for the reasons above. Better to have everything covered with a modern BMW. More to go wrong

Thanks all, decided on fully comp the car is very highly spec'ed so I dread to think of the costs involved. The idrive failed on my 335 xdrive a couple of years ago and that was a £2,000 bill thankfully under warranty, + Harry makes a valid point above

It's swings and roundabouts. Just dig the money pit you prefer!

The X6M has so far needed an oil breather. But it might need a turbo next week.

The 750 needed two bi-xenon light units, iDrive screen, rain sensor, navigation computer, engine loom, wheel bearing, a suspension arm, four parking sensors (at different times), air quality sensor, a gearbox and probably more things which I have now forgotten. But at least it was in 100% working order when I sold it and none of the repairs was an ambush.
