And so the “Welcome to Mercedes Benz Customer Service Begins”
Washed the car today and came across a paint blemish that I’m going to call Rust under paint as it appear more than a nib or run...

Surprisingly, Phoned today, thinking I’d been fobbed off with “we shall have Warranty Inspector phone you back”
Within the hour the appointment was made for inspection

    Corrosion or Dirt under paint...
Taken into account car is <3 months with a build date of November 2018

Can't be as bad as my W211 'Boy I loved that car!' But it suffered from the well documented corrosion issue.

Hats off to Mercedes thought, no quibbles no hassle straight in for a full respray and all sorted.

Sean what part of the car is that? Is it inside?
    Looks odd.

Drivers side rear door bottom, below the swage-line
Very difficult to see ordinarily, though now, very difficult to unsee

Booked in on Thursday as I’m mildly enraged!
If I leave it, should the paint break, it then becomes stone chip damage as is the paint is fully sealed

Hopefully it's just an isolated bit of contamination.
Can't believe Mercedes would let corrosion become an issue again.

Shows the benefit of taking pride in your car, most people wouldn't have spotted that.
    Hope it's all resolved swiftly.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

Well, let’s hope you have a good experience. Not impressed with Porsche after sales so far.

No, nothing yet but awaiting prices for a spare wheel kit and no-one getting back to me.

    Ah got it.

Must be really disappointing! Tbh the fact you bought a Merc had completely passed me by.
I will read through your other thread properly soon but judging by the photos it’s a good looking motor. Did you already indicate how you think it compares to your x5?

    It’s a mid life affair
The X5 still has a place in the heart, though was getting to an age & mileage where second stage depreciation would have kicked in, what with new model being out etc...
Fear not a BMW will return on the drive as my car ownership map is drafted, with possibly one more change until Porsche ownership

    Well
Dealer says it’s a stone chip
Discussed with Warranty Inspector, DP & Bodyshop and raised latterly with Mercedes Uk
Much less than Impressed and left with a bitter taste that I can’t swallow.....

Surely a stone chip goes inward, leaving a cut/groove. Yours looks to be a blemish coming outward. Hence starting from the base coat.

Stone chip? Sounds like they're trying to wriggle out of responsibility and want you to pay. Why would a stone chip on a 2018 car be surrounded by what looks like corrosion? It would appear to be a defect from the time of manufacture, whether that's contamination or corrosion. I would be taking a very firm attitude. It might not cost that much to repair, but if you pay, you will absolve them of responsibility of it ever came back.

Infuriates me when dealers and manufacturers come out with this crap.

Why cant they simply say "not sure what it is but will will get it sorted for you"

Happy customer, Mercedes reputation enhanced all for very little money
