    Argh!
Appreciation and apologies, it’s not a Bmw but we all have tyres

First service on car, 2019 with 4183miles and in need of four new tyres due to cracking between treads, two of which are down to cords....
Car was built Nov 2018 registered 31 March 2019 with a tyre dot code of week 43, 2018

What a great feeling, so far it’s a game of warranty tennis between me and dealer, typically stalemate with a helpful note from tyre manufacturer this morning to me, to relay to dealer to escalate process!
An interesting forum feed dialogue, hopefully, greatly assisted my case, to support the worth of much digital blathering!

    What an unnecessary bitter taste!

Anyone experience effective warranty claims on tyres ???
I ask as the exclusion is stated on warranty booklet.

Only once and about 30 years ago !
ISTR the tyre company made a "goodwill" payment , a percentage of replacement cost based on age / mileage of the defective tyres

Seems an incredibly early “let go” of the tyres. Surely that’s a manufacturing fault with the tyre maker?

Thats certainly my opinion, if one had gone understandable, however all four is hard to swallow!
Two opposite corners are cracked to cord other two are going the same way!
I’m hopeful the dealer handles the process with tyre manufacturer and replace all four, circa 7.1-7.2mm of tread is premature wear as the pressures are matched to the door cards, no feathering or indication of uneven wear, wheels clean with no kerbing or notable damage to indicate erratic driving styles
Otherwise I’ll escalate through the channels to ombudsman.

I claimed for two continental tyres I had fitted to my Porsche a few years ago but through the tyre outlet. At about 18 months old I had my two rear tyres crack down to the cord. Mileage about 3K and treads both above 7mm. The tyres were replaced without too much question. The fronts bought at the same time (but a different size) suffered no such issues. I would hope in your case the supplying dealer sorts it out on such a new car with barely worn tyres

    Thanks
I’m currently trawling sites and Porsche owners have multiple positive outcomes
The local dealer was not the supplying dealer, hence initial fob off was expected, so I was partially prepared and willing to escalate through channels, armed with the protocol to follow
Tyre Manufacturer customer Service was helpful so I’m hoping for a pleasing outcome....
Currently, dealer is escalating with tyre manufacturer and waiting feedback which should arrive on neverday!

l had bad cracking between the tread on a set of Continental sport contact five that l had fitted a few years ago and it was alarming to see a tyre start to crack at 12 months old

luckily for me the tyres were wearing at such a rate they were gone in less than two years

this experience has made me a little wary of Continental tyres

    Further frustrations with this,
Tyre warranty is excluded from manufacturers warranty

Pirelli require tyres for assessment so x4 tyres required

What do I fit, regardless it has to be a Mercedes MO recommended tyre

Do I change for same tyre and save costs and hope for reimbursement from Pirelli.
Play the long game and risk splitting tyres next year and reclaiming

Do I change brand, stick with MO recommended tyre and swallow costs

In your position, I'd go with the same again and trust that Pirelli will do the right thing by you and reimburse.

    Well, that’s the wallet emptied!
Following an exchange with Mercedes, it’s now in the hands of Pirelli
Annoyingly, like most manufacturers, the warranty lies with the tyre manufacturer, as I have no invoice for tyres, the dealer is obligated to process claim and return to manufacturer.
Out goes the online tyre option and pilfered by dealer inflated rates for tyres.....
So the saga continues and the tyres will now do more mileage in the back of wagon, all the way to Germany, several city hops to the Bremen, then onwards to Pirelli distributor, what a complex time deficient process...

Erm! Optimist, pessimist or realist...... Horrible feeling they shall get lost!

    Update!
After much frustrations and follow up with local dealer due to lack of communication

The postman delivered the response from Pirelli today.
“Following our assessment of the above detailed tyre claim, we are authorising your dealer to pass an allowance of 100% to compensate you for the loss of potential mileage. This allowance has been calculated from the tyres average residual tread depths”

Very pleased with the response, more so as I had replaced like for like tyres due to the comfort & low road noise they provide.
So whilst my view on car dealers remain unchanged, faith has been restored in Pirelli, hopefully I get the opportunity to run this set down to the wear limit...

That is a good result from Pirelli, shame the dealer didn't support you better.

    This tale just gets better
Today I received the cheque from dealer
It not only covered the cost of replacement tyres & fitting it also allow an additional £102 over and above the invoice total
Being a fine upstanding and honest citizen, I notified dealer advising of potential error and was latterly advised that that is the settlement from Pirelli
So a new set of tyres and spare money bonus!

glad to see pirelli did the right thing in the end and the extra cash is a nice little bonus

shame the dealer was not so supportive as tyres of that age and such low miles should not have been suffering from cracking (n)
