Autoglym LifeShine treatment, follow up care

Evening all.

As part of the deal on the E92 I had this treatment done:

I've never been a convert to this sort of treatment, the wife had something similar on her 6 month old Audi A1 four years ago and it was shocking. They clearly hadn't decontaminated the car before applying, rendering it it all but useless. I've ended up claying the car, decontaminating and then building up a decent layer of wax/polish, looks good now.
However, as this was all but free (think it cost me £100 in the end) I decided to go with it. To be fair the car was in pretty spectacular condition paint wise when I picked it up. Felt very smooth indeed, that post-clay feel.
I've followed the instructions since picking the car up 6 months ago, using the AG Conditioner and the occasional Aqua Wax (odd spraying onto a wet car). So far the paintwork is bearing up very well, beads after each wash, has a level lustre to the metallic flecks.

I'm concerned that using other products may impact the treatment, any thoughts? There is a guarantee, suppose only as good as trying to make a claim on it.

I've scuffed ( ) a small section of the NS rear bumper on a parking bollard and need to get this repaired and sprayed. Not going to a smart repairer as have been warned off these, so a body shop has quoted me. Assume I would have to go back and have this panel re-treated to maintain the guarantee.

Will be giving the car a wash/treatment on Friday afternoon in preparation for our annual Easter Cornish trip, the first year I won't be claying, polishing, sealing etc.....will be odd!
Have some Poor Boys wheel sealer, so am half tempted to do one with this to see if it is easier to clean following, needs a few layers building up though.

Does smell lovely and new inside! Pretty good for a car that has 70K and is nearly 7 years old.

 

Sounds like the treatment has been done properly and whoever applied has taken time to properly prepare the paint prior to application, hopefully the sealant will last well - doubt it'll be for life though.....2 years or so seems more likely but considering the cost that's still good value...and if it makes it look good then great.

Autoglym's products are very good and well respected and looking after the coating doesn't sound difficult or expensive...

 

is it lifetime paint protection or is it snake oil?. i know which one i think it is

as you are well aware it is all in the preparation and how clean the car was before the product was applied, from what i have seen the lifeshine type products are a Nano hard wax sealant that can be picked up for around £10-£15 a bottle

also the fact that they are saying to apply aqua wax at regular intervals as dong so will keep the appearance of a well protected car, of course it will as Aqua wax could be used as a stand alone product on its own without the hard wax underneath it, so is the aqua wax adding to the life shine or hiidng the fact that it has gone

as for the guarantee i cant see that being worth much as they could get out of it in so many ways, and for you to maintain the guarantee you would have to buy a lifeshine repair kit and get the repair shop to apply it for you

I currently have feynlab ceramic on my car and i find it a very easy to maintain coating which suits me

I have never been a fan of dealer applied coatings as the salesman makes them sound like the Dogs Danglies and they have people leaving the showroom thinking the car is protected for life and two weeks later they call by the local hand wash joint at the side of the road and they cover the car in strong TFR and then jet wash your £400.00 coating down the drain

 

For the price I actually ended up paying, think they started at £399, I’m happy with the results for the past six months.
All muck/grime/salt washes off very easily. I’ve picked up one stone chip in six months, randomly middle of the bonnet.
A lot lot better than the supposed product applied by the Audi dealership. That really was £299 thrown down the drain....I did warn her.

 

i agree that the price you paid was a very good price, and i am sure if properly maintained you wll see the the benefit for years to come, i am just very sceptical of dealer valeters and they way they apply theses coatings as they are normally pushed for time and not paid a realistic amount to do the job properly

i was talking to somebody that said the dealership they worked for paid the contract valleters £2.60 to wash and dry a car so you can see why they are likely to cut corners

 

Interestingly my previous experience with Sytners and car cleaning was very poor. I bought an F30 from them back in 2016 and it was very badly prepared, the cleaning was pretty much shocking.
I did complain and ended up having some additional servicing discounted.
The dealership has a brand new set up, moved from Sutton to Tamworth, and it seems they have upped their game somewhat. The E92 has definitely been prepared properly before the AG coating has been applied. I was given the long spiel as to how the car has to be decontaminated etc, part of the agreement with AG to sell/warranty their products.

I shall see how it goes, certainly following the guidance on cleaning procedure.

 

I got that autoglym on mine when i got my car, i didn't want it,i originally agreed but when going back to provide some info, i told them not to bother but they had already done the paper work so the priced reduced and i went with it, i forget exactly how much i got it for now.

Unfortunately, i wasn't aware had to maintain it so its never been done, bought the car in 2017 so its 2 years on now. I dunno if i can get them to re-apply it or if they charge etc as it says you can get them back etc but i can't imagine its free.

I originally was considering a Gtechniq coating for the car but was a bit pricey but i figured was better than what the dealers provided but never did in the end.

I am surprised that a BMW dealer is offering autoglym lifeshine as a coating option, I thought all the BMW dealerships offered the BMW protect X product as the dealer applied coating of choice

 

Definitely AG product. They had an M3 in the showroom with a bonnet half prepared with this and half not. Quite a big show of it really.

 

Just checked on their website and they have a body shop on site. Maybe it was done there. Might get them to give me a quote for the scuff!

 

Sytner Coventry use Autoglym Lifeshine. I had mine done from new, 16 months ago. It has been good so far. Water still beads well, and dirt/marks seem to wash off easily, so I'm quite pleased with it. Mostly I just use running water (Flexy brush on hosepipe) to clean it. Once in a while I use some of the AG shampoo in a bucket, with a microfibre mitt. A few weeks ago I gave the roof and bonnet a quick wipe over with aqua wax, but it didn't make any apparent difference to the beading, so I presume that the original coating is still working. I will be surprised if it lasts beyond 2 years though! I expect to revert to my usual AG SR polish + EGP next winter, when it will be 2 years old. Colour is mineral white.

 

Good to hear someone else has the same treatment and is happy, so far.

 

Cleaned the car ready for a Cornwall trip tomorrow. Even though it will get filthy in the lanes and car parks down there, needs to be spotless to start with doesn’t it?!

Usual AG conditioner followed by another Aqua Wax treatment and buff. Meg’s tyre gel to finish.







Comes up nicely for a car that will be seven in June.

its nice when a wash and a quick spritz with a drying aid / quick detialer is all it takes to get the car looking its best

stay away from some of the real narrow cornish lanes freaked out with one around gweek when i had the sliver 5 series and i was worried that the hedges were that close they were gong to scratch the paint

 

Going to a little village called Crantock, the only way in and out is along a pretty narrow lane......gulp.....I will be breathing in a lot.......

 

we have not spent to much time around the Newquay area but all of Cornwall is a good place to spend your holidays wee preferred the Helston area and explored the coast all the way around from Helston to st ives we spent many a holiday in st buryan between penzance and lands end

 

Three days of rain have finally gone, sun is out and was created by some nice beading on the paintwork this morning.

 

Managed to keep the car away from the thorns, bushes, SUVs who can't judge the width of the road and the muddy/dusty ditches that line most of the roads down there. Phew.
I did manage to collect a few million flies along the way there/back, covered the front. A quick wash and dry and the car is spotless again. They came off much easier than I was expecting.
