Hi everyone, Could someone help me with this cutting out issue, please.
When I am driving it just randomly cuts out and after 5 minutes will run again.
When I scanned it I had everything you could think of coming up but I cleared them down and only is
    27c3 Thermal oil-level sensor
    279c output stage thermostat map
2772 Tank venting valve output stage
2783 Hot film mass air flow sensor ( Changed for a new one and it still comes up )

When it cut out I read codes and it came up with the above still but also both cam sensors and crank now I know I am not this unluck.
I have ordered a new cam chain tensioner because I have a lot of rattle from startup for a few seconds so I am hoping that's the cause.
Has anyone had this issue before and how did you solve it or is the cam chain tensioner the issue. ?

Ok , just wondered if it was one of those off Ebay, they can be very unreliable.

Think you may need to bite the bullet and get the codes read by a BMW Garage or a good Indy , there s no point guessing or replacing parts until you know for sure what the problem is. Good luck with it , keep us posted as to how you get on .

Do you know if you’ve got the N42 valvetronic engine or the older m43tu engine?
N42 did have issues with the crank sensor which was very helpfully under the intake manifold and a pain to get at. Losing crank signal would give you the cam and crank faults and would also cause the engine to cut out so I’d start there for sure.
BMW’s aren’t generally into aftermarket air mass meters even from quality brands so I’d also consider fitting the dealer sourced one.

the cam and or crank sensor readings are the only ones that would cut the engine out (because it's safer than valve/piston contact).
AFM and temp sensors tend to just cause poor running / limp mode

I have an Autel Elite MD802 4 System reader which was £185 so I don't really need it to go on the main dealer's one. I am fitting the newly updated cam chain tensioner tomorrow to eliminate the slack chain issue and I am really hoping this is the cause. Probably not but its a start I guess.

Then I would definitely be replacing the crank sensor. Also if you think the chain is slack then get the timing checked in case it’s jumped a tooth.

Can you listen to the noise when switched off? Any ideas on this, please.

Had the cover off because of the horrible noise I get straight after when switching engine off
and found movement in the chain guide but no play in the chain. Is this something to worry about.

Turned out to be a blown 30 amp fuse under the bonnet which has cleared all code bar one which in the oil level sensor.
So looks like I have solved it with the help of the good old internet. (y)(y)(y)(y)

Got to be honest i'm not sure if the chain guide shoud be as loose as that, if the bolt is tight then I would say yes but I can't recall doing the same on them, chain is tight though so that's a good sign.
What is the fuse you found blown?
